Such trials
In the wind garden of the Western Air Temple, Kyoshi laid her grievances before Avatar Yangchen.
"You are having difficulties flying?"
"Yes, you could say that," said Kyoshi, too tall and too heavy to fly properly. She had wrecked two gliders thus far. "This flitting around isn't for me."
"I found serenity in flight," said Yangchen.
"I vomited."
"Inexperienced fliers often do."
Kyoshi lowered her eyes.
Gently Yangchen said, "There is no need for shame. You'll master air as I mastered earth. Eventually."
"Was it difficult for you?" asked Kyoshi.
"Earthbending? It was a trial."
"But you mastered it."
"In time."
In time.
"Thank you," said Kyoshi.
Yangchen inclined her head and was gone.
This story was originally posted at livejournal on 09/27/2009 for the atlaland community's inaugural writing challenge. Unfortunately, it exceeded the parameters of the drabble challenge by about fourteen words, of which my word counter neglected to inform me, so it was disqualified. And now you know!
FFN absolutely refuses to center this story's title, so my apologies for the sloppy presentation.
