"I won't stop fighting. That would mean giving up my blade."
Blood fell upon his blade as he cursed the power of the new weapon before him. The bullet
wound to his stomach was losing blood quickly while he held his clothing tight and limped away
from his opponent. He spat and yelled across the field,
"That weapon does... not belong here... in this Age of Blades and... I will one day prove you
this!"
With that, and a strained effort, Heishiro Mitsurugii, for the first time, ran away.
"Even Korefuji could not defeat it... there is a sword in this world that can win... I know it!"
Mitsurugii lifted his eyes from the cloth around his stomach to the rising sun at the east. Fist
clenched, he vowed to find the blade that could defeat a rifle.
--
One year had passed. A fairly young, black-haired ken drew his sword, staring deep into the soul
of his enemy. His opponent lifted his blade as Mitsurugii gripped the hilt of his Korefuji. The South
Korean warrior faced the Japanese swordsman and began to slide his feet to the right. The ken did
the same, each falling upon an invisible outline of a duel circle.
Hwang Sung Kyung. This was the last of a long line of fighters, all who had fallen, to stand in
Mitsurugii's way. The latter made use of an old fighter's trick to begin the final battle- he smiled.
Hwang rushed in and ducked under a slash from Mitsurugii and sliced at the ken's feet. In a flash,
having accurately read the attack, Mitsurugii sidestepped and countered with a downward stab. All
at once, Hwang dropped his blade and did a full dive to the ground, to then roll sideways while
retrieving his Blue Storm.
The men fell bakc into the unseen circle, a bead of sweat trickling down Hwang's face. Heishiro
spun his katana in his right-hand palm and ran his left through his hair, lifting his bangs from his
eyes.
The two clashed swords, felt one another's warm breath in their closeness. Their blades slid
against each other as the Lone Swordsman kicked Hwang in the ribs. He quickly followed up with
an overhead slash that fell into a quick combination. As Mitsurugii continued to rain blows upon
Hwang, the Hero of the Warlike Age felt his strength slipping from him. After a lethal upward
snap, Mitsurugii had disarmed Hwang and pointed his thumb to his chest, proclaiming himself ready
to defeat the "intruder on the Age of Blades".
As he spoke these words, a Spaniard bearing two ruby swords appeared at the edge of the
treeline. Mitsurugii noticed him and fell into a ready stance.
"I guess I'm not quite done."
--
Almost an hour later, Heishiro stood over his opponent. In a few seconds, there was a cry and a
sword scraping against a sheath.
"K-kami-sama..."
