I was inspired by watching Tangled, and this is my 650th story. Holy crap. Enjoy!

And at last I see the light

And it's like the fog has lifted

And at last I see the light

And it's like the sky is new

She would never be able to pinpoint the exact moment it happened, but when it happened, everything changed.

Sitting in her chair across from him, Juliet looked up from the open file in front of her. Carlton was sitting across from her, his focus strictly on his computer screen as his lips moved in time with whatever he was reading so intently. The scene in front of her was so familiar; it was one she had been witness to for almost eight years now.

But something about him was different. Something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

Then it hit her, and the wind was suddenly knocked out of her.

She was in love with her partner.

For a few seconds, she forgot to breathe. When she could finally draw a breath again, she rested her palms on her desk and blinked slowly. He was a good looking, sweet, loyal and protective man. What woman in her right mind wouldn't love him? She wouldn't call pursuing Shawn a mistake, but maybe somewhere in her subconscious, she had always known he was her second choice, her safe choice. She never called it fair, and she never proclaimed to be doing the right thing. Shawn was gone now, no doubt finding happiness with someone more suited for him.

Now it was her turn to do the same.

As if he could read her thoughts, he looked away from the computer screen and met her eyes. As their gazes locked, a warmth spread through her when he smiled knowingly. It was like he had known all these years and was just waiting for the moment when she would realize it as well.

"Carlton?" she breathed, hoping no one would hear her.

I love you.

He just nodded.

I know. I love you, too.

Finally their gaze broke, and they returned to their individual paperwork. Five minutes later, Juliet got a text on her phone.

Dinner?

She just smiled. She still wasn't sure exactly when it had happened, but she was in love with Carlton Lassiter.

Life had never been better.

And it's warm and real and bright

And the world has somehow shifted

All at once, everything is different

Now that I see you

The End.
