Firestar padded up next to Flametail, who was sitting at the base of a waterfall.
"Firestar," Flametail greeted him.
"Hello, Flametail," replied Firestar.
"Why are you here?" asked Flametail.
"I came to keep you company," said Firestar.
The two of them sat in silence for a moment, just listening to the water.
Firestar turned his head.
"Flametail, I know it's hard to lose someone you love. It's even harder when it's you that they lost. But you have to keep going, for them, and for yourself," he murmured.
Flametail thrashed his tail, then fell still.
"I miss them so much. It's not fair!" he said. "I miss Tawnypelt the most. But I also miss my old Clanmates, as well as Tigerstar. Why did I have to die?" he asked.
"No one wants to die, Flametail. But it's up to you to accept that. You can still see them in your dreams," Firestar replied.
"It's not enough!" Flametail said. "I miss the sweet feeling of Tawnypelt's fur, the way my brother used to laugh. Tigerstar and I used to play games when we were kits. I would be the medicine cat, and he would be the leader. It hurts my heart to know that it could have been possible."
"I know how you feel," Firestar began. "Though I didn't die, I was taken away from my littermates and my parents at a very young age. I had only just been switched to round pellets instead of milk when I was taken away and put in an unfamiliar place, with no one I knew. You have cats you know and love here in Starclan. I know that doesn't make up for your kin not being with you, but it definitely makes it better. Night is falling soon, would you like to visit your kin in a dream?"
"Yes, please," answered Flametail. "And, Firestar,"
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
