Pairing: Makorra (kinda)
So, someone's probably done this already, but that scene in episode three when they cuddled just hit me right in the fandom. So then I made this. Enjoy!
Korra had been asleep for ages, her head hung forward as she lounged back comfortably against Naga's thick white fur. It had been a taxing day for the both of them, even before their search for Bolin and fight against the chi-blockers. Immediately after training Mako had gone to work at the power plant (let's just say that lightning bending isn't easy, especially when you do it for hours on end) and Korra must have been doing airbending training for the entire day after she'd gotten back to Air Temple Island. If you add that on top of the fighting and the blind searching for Bolin all night, they both had every right to be exhausted. And yet Mako couldn't seem to sleep; no matter how much his body told him he was exhausted, his mind wouldn't let him rest.
He didn't know what had made him tell her about his parents. The information about the Triads was necessary to share; the moment Skoochy told him about Shady Shin, Mako hadn't really thought much about it, too worried about his brother. But sometime after Bolin was taken by the Equalists, he's realized that he couldn't just let her wonder how the brothers had gotten tangled up with the gang. Korra would probably think up another explanation, one that was much worse than the truth. But his parents? He could have easily just told her that, yes, he minded her asking and no, he wasn't going to tell her what happened to them.
But he didn't. And now she was deeper in his life than he'd ever meant to let her.
Naga growled something in her sleep and shifted her massive head, curling it towards him so sharply that he automatically jumped away from it, almost knocking into Korra as he scrambled back. The giant Polar bear-dog couldn't seem to settle, its forepaws scratching the ground and leaving deep grooves in the grass. Mako couldn't help but swallow nervously. Naga had saved him and Korra both, and he was grateful for that, not to mention the ride across town, but he still couldn't forget that the animal was a polar bear dog. The FIRST tamed polar bear dog. And though it seemed that Korra had trained Naga well, he didn't doubt that there was still some wild in her.
He pushed a just a little further away from Naga's head, but froze when his shoulder pressed into Korra's. The Avatar made a small noise in the back of her throat and her head lolled towards him, resting on his shoulder. She shifted slightly in her sleep until apparently comfortable, lying more on him than her 'best friend', then continued to lightly snore, oblivious to Mako's sudden discomfort.
He glanced back to Naga, where the animal seemed to be having a dream that involved a lot of growling and teeth baring, and then down at the sleeping girl snoozing comfortably on his shoulder. He wasn't sure which he was more afraid of.
