This is an idea I've had for a while now and wanted to share. This is my first fic for The Blacklist, so I hope you enjoy. Your reviews are much appreciated!

Red couldn't keep the smile from his face as he sat in one of the chairs of the small theater. Christmas music was played loudly by an elderly woman at a piano as families sat together facing the small stage. The atmosphere felt oddly domestic and familiar.
Red's smile widened as the lights dimmed and young children began to fill the stage. He listened to the hushed, excited whispers from parents as their children appeared beneath the bright lights. Red's eyes eagerly scanned each face in search of one in particular. His heart fluttered around in his chest with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. Red couldn't keep a happy chuckle from escaping as his eyes landed on the smallest of the Christmas trees.
Sam had explained to him that Elizabeth had refused to be one of the young girls dressed as an angel and had insisted on being a Christmas tree instead.
Lizzie looked to be the happiest of the trees as she puffed her chest out proudly. Her costume was far from perfect and didn't hold the same expensive taste and glimmer of the others, but Lizzie seemed beyond content with it. The green tree costume covered every part of her body except for his face. The gold star that topped her head had an adorable lilt to it.
Red barely listened as a middle aged woman, presumably the teacher, introduced the production eagerly. It was clear the poor woman had invested too much time into the small production and was expecting perfection.
As the teacher disappeared and the music began, Red watched Lizzie eagerly and fought back a large grin.
Lizzie's moves were uncoordinated and ungraceful when compared to the other dancers. She was creative with her movements and half-assed the singing (much to Red's amusement). Lizzie danced to the beat of her own drum and seemed blissfully unaware of the dark looks her teacher shot her.
Red drank in the happiness Lizzie radiated and felt it heal the dark patches that had started to cling to his heart during the holiday season.
Following the completion of a third song, Lizzie's class was escorted off stage to loud applause. Red watched as Lizzie waved to Sam, who waved right back with a proud grin on his face.
An unfamiliar tug pulled at Red's heart as a big part of him wished he was In his dear friend's place and that Lizzie had waved at him. He buried the feeling quickly. Distance from him would keep her safe and no matter how much he wanted to be in Lizzie's life; her safety would always win over his own heartache.
