Disclaimer: Finn and Quinn don't belong to me!
He knew where to find her; it was where they were both most comfortable, where they felt they belonged, despite their friends in New Directions. Finn sat next to Quinn and glanced at her. She sat on damp the grass of the football field, her fingers grazing the blades gently. There was silence between them, the sound of a passing car and crickets filled the air, leaving the two of them to stew in their thoughts.
"Are you okay?" he asked, finally breaking the silence between them. There was hesitance in his question, unsure of whether or not breaking this silence was a good idea.
"I'm fine, Finn." Quinn answered. "How'd you know I'd be here?" she turned to look at him, her hair falling over her shoulders as she did so. Finn shrugged, not quite sure what to tell Quinn. It was their spot after all, even before they started dating.
"I just knew" he replied and made eye contact with her. She was hurting; he could see it in her eyes. "Do you miss her?"
"Who?" Quinn broke away from Finn's embrace and leaned against the grass, stretching her small frame as far as she could.
"Beth." Silence surrounded them once more as Quinn looked up into the night sky, staring at the stars as they twinkled above her. Finn watched as Quinn's chest rose and fell with each breath she took before deciding to lay down next to her and stare up at the sky.
"Sometimes" she admitted, brushing a strand of blonde hair out of her face. "All the time" a smile broke out onto Quinn's features. "When I was holding her, everything felt..." she paused, searching for the correct word.
"Perfect?" Finn suggested, counting the stars above him. Quinn nodded on his right and rolled to her side to look at him.
"Yeah, everything was perfect, surreal even." She paused again, taking in the light breeze that grazed the field. "I did the right thing" she said, more to herself than to her companion. "I wasn't ready, I'm not ready to take care of a baby. I just-" she stopped herself. "Nevermind."
"What?"
"Nothing, Finn."
"If you say so" Finn sat up slowly and gave Quinn another look.
"Stop giving me that look, Finn" she said.
"What look?"
"That look of concern." She replied, sitting up and drawing her knees to her chest. "I'm fine" she told him again.
"Sorry" he mumbled and looked into the dark stadium. "Are you going to be able to visit her?"
"Beth?"
"Yeah"
"I might be allowed to. I don't know if I want to. What if…" Quinn trailed off and sighed.
"What if what?"
"What if she asks why I gave her up?" Finn frowned slightly and looked back at Quinn who was staring at the sky again.
"You'll know what to tell her if that happens." He said.
"Do you think she'll love me if she found out? I don't want what happened to Rachel to happen to Beth."
"Don't let it happen. Beth will love you regardless, if you're allowed to see her while she grows up, she'll get to know you and love you as her birth mother, just not her mom."
"You think so?"
"Yeah." Slowly, quietly, Quinn got to her feet and smiled at Finn warmly.
"Thanks, Finn" she said.
"No problem." He followed her lead and stood up, towering over the former Cheerio considerably. Quinn hesitated before hugging Finn lightly as another thanks. Finn returned the hug and smiled as they broke apart. "Do you need a ride home?" he asked. "Wherever you're living right now?"
"I'm still staying with Mercedes and yes, I'd love a ride home." Finn nodded and lead Quinn out of the stadium towards where his mother's car was waiting for him in the parking lot.
