Learning to Fly
Author's Note: This oneshot is based off of a picture Lady Madbeth is currently drawing that I got a sneak peek at…and she and nekozawa11 wanted me to publish it so…hope you enjoy it as much as they did!
"Alright Ezio, hold still."
"How the hell can I hold still, Leonardo, with Desmondeo squirming like a worm?" I asked, a scowl forming on my face.
The infant child in the baby carrier, Desmondeo, giggled and continued to chew on his toy: a smaller, cloth version of Leonardo's flying machine. Yes, the one in which I was called the "Flying Demon."
"I'm getting the pigeon on your head." Leonardo replied matter-of-factly, "And watch your language around your son."
I blew some loose hair out of my face. If it wasn't for the fact Leonardo was the man who not only fixed my hidden blade, but also loaned me his flying machine when I needed it (despite the fact I destroyed it), I wouldn't be up here, letting him paint the birds that, every so often, landed on my. Unfortunately, I had to bring Desmondeo, my infant son, with me. He seemed to enjoy the climb up, watching as we loomed over all of Firenze.
"Leonardo!"
"Almost done Ezio. You can wait another three minutes, can't you?"
I groaned irritably. Desmondeo seemed to laugh at my torture as I attempted to scratch behind my ear with my shoulder.
After what seemed like hours, Leonardo grinned and put down his paintbrush. "Alright, Ezio, come look."
Desmondeo squirmed a little more as I made my way off of the balcony and towards Leonardo. I smiled a little as I looked at the image painted onto the canvas.
Leonardo had painted me, with Desmondeo, on the balcony, with Firenze behind us. He got Desmondeo looking towards him, which is something I have NEVER seen him successfully achieve, and there were birds everywhere, including a hawk. "It looks great, Leo!"
"What can I say? I know my own skills." Leonardo replied with a chuckle.
I rotated my shoulder and asked, "Am I free to go?"
"But of course! You helped me out, like I asked, so you can leave."
I glanced at the wooden beam sticking out of the roof. Desmondeo seemed to know what I was thinking, because he started laughing. Unfortunately, that also meant Leonardo knew what I was thinking.
"Not in a thousand years, Ezio! What would happen if Desmondeo fell out of his carrier?" Leonardo barked, his face showing concern.
"I'll prevent that." I replied as I made my way over to the beam, tightening up the carrier as I went. I stepped out onto the beam and explained, "Okay son, you'll enjoy this." A grin found its way across my face.
Desmondeo cooed, sucking on the toy flying machine.
I heard Leonardo run towards the edge of the building as I got on my toes. "Ezio!"
The wind whipped my face as I felt myself plummet towards the hay below me. Desmondeo squealed in delight. I did a spin, making sure I landed so I wouldn't inflict harm upon myself and on Desmondeo. An explosion of hay marked a successful landing, and people were giving me the strangest looks.
"ARE YOU CRAZY!?" I heard Leonardo shout down to me.
"NO!" I shouted.
Felling proud of myself for landing with a kid strapped to my torso, I headed back home, where my love was waiting and where Desmondeo's ancestry would reveal who he was.
