It's not like he hadn't expected this. Hell, they all knew this was coming. Mafia life is not really that long, after all.
But he just wished it came a little bit later. Maybe some time after the day they are also anticipating for every year. The only day that all of them are gathered at the base; even the Cloud and Mist are there when that anticipated day comes.
A pat on his shoulder pulled him out of his musing. The Rain was grim, a rare one what with the contradicting personality he has despite the typical mood of his element. Even the Sun was, looking as though he just fell out of his place and was still falling in the deepest bowels of extreme nothingness. Thunder was howling, much harder than he used to be, clutching, seeking comfort from anyone, anyone. But no one could be that "anyone" at the moment; none of them can comfort anyone at the moment.
And, just then, it finally hit him with all the weight of the world.
This was all real. He could deny it no longer.
Their Sky was dead, right on the day before their anticipated celebration for his 28th birthday.
Knees buckling underneath him, he fell hard on his knees. But he didn't notice that. No he did not.
Glazed silvery eyes looked at the figure being cradled by Sasagawa Kyoko. A storm of emotions can be seen in them; how ironic that his element decided to show up at its fullest now rather than in the battlefield.
Gulping to push down an unmoving lump in his throat, he whispered, "Tenth…"
And then, the calm before the storm ended.
