Notes: This is the first entry of eleven about the children of Fire Emblem: Awakening interacting with their parents. I plan to publish one per day during these hard times for me, so we all can be cheery in some form :) Enjoy!
Cynthia knew her father was all work and almost no fun, always doing something here and another thing over there in the camp, keeping everything functioning so smoothly in spite of the war around them all. She also knew he kept an eye out for her mother, who was rather clumsy and distracted easily, as he loved her dearly. However...
"Let me do that for you, don't strain yourself," Frederick's stern voice said firmly as he marched towards his wife, who was kneeling on the ground.
Sumia giggled and discreetly rolled her eyes, trying to ignore him. "I'm just picking some flowers for my fortunes, it's not that hard!"
...he was definitely extra wary about her now, Cynthia mused as she sighed, leaning back on her hands. She silently watched as her father produced a plush cushion for Sumia to sit on, a parasol to keep her from the sun, and a cup of rather nice smelling tea out of thin air. Frederick then got to the task of efficiently picking flowers out from among the weeds, putting them on a small basket he had also brought along.
Cynthia stared hard at her father first, but he was too concentrated, so she shifted her accusing gaze to her mother after a few minutes. Sumia blushed and tried to smile calmly, but failed.
"Alright, you two, what is going on here?" the daughter asked, unable to decipher what had changed.
"Oh, you know your father. He likes to work a lot, and he has had some free time to make my life much more comfortable these days. It's really nice," Sumia answered nervously, obviously lying.
Cynthia shifted to go kneel right in front of her mother, not breaking eye contact. "I'm not so sure," she said slowly. "Something is different." Her mother stiffened and looked away. "Something has changed." Her father looked at her, the flower basket already full. "What is going on with you two?" she finally demanded directly.
"Sumia?" Frederick tried to push it on his wife, the first time ever.
"Frederick," Sumia rejected the responsibility of doing it alone, but she reassured him, "we are in this together."
They exchanged a sweet look and a loving smile, then both turned to face her openly. Cynthia perked up, reciprocating the attention with a big grin.
"We have really enjoyed having met you, and having you around, Cynthia," Frederick began, sounding proud.
"You have become very special to us," Sumia continued, grasping her husband's hand as it reached out for hers. "And your presence has reaffirmed our love and commitment to each other."
"We are a family now, and we hope you can stay with us if... when our family grows."
A very meaningful look was exchanged between her parents, and her mind candle went on with realization.
"Oh my gods! Mother, you're pregnant!" Cynthia gasped excitedly as she jumped up, startling them with her energy. "Can I babysit myself?" She was going to be so cute as a baby!
