I do not own Harry Potter.
"You did not return with the others. How can I trust you?"
"If it had been at all possible I would have returned immediately"
"You are hardly making a persuasive argument, for a Death Eater who did not come when commanded."
"You have my word that it was for you that I didn't come!"
"Enough! I am uninterested in your pleas, Severus. You are of no further use to me. Avada Keda-"
CRACK!
The conversation between my uncle and his master was cut short as I arrived with my master.
"It's true! You have returned! I waited for you, my lord. In America. I stayed where you had sent me those years ago." My master said excitedly. I remained attached to his shadow, hoping to remain out of sight and mind.
"So…you are not dead, Altman?" replied a rather snakish man uninterestedly.
"No, my lord! I am alive, and have brought you a gift, to reassure you of my loyalties!"
SHIT! "Here!" my master said as he silently bespelled me to appear.
"I have no interest in employing children to do my work, Altman. Send your daughter home so that we may talk." Replied the snake.
I tried to remain motionless. When my master forced me to appear, I merely collapsed on the ground. I prayed that my idiot master would obey orders before things got worse.
Unfortunately, my master did not need to do anything, because my god-awful uncle managed to screw things up for me.
"My Dark Lord, if I may, this girl is not his daughter. It is my niece, who lived with me the year before last. If you would not send her home, she could be of great use to you."
This spiked the man's interest, and he looked at my uncle with wondering eyes. He obviously had forgotten that he hadn't finished his curse.
"She is a shadow. A dark and powerful servant, that serves without question or complaint." My uncle continued.
"She is my shadow! I am the one who brought her to you, my dark master. I am willing to loan her to you, so that you can carry out your task more easily." Said my master hastily.
"And why would I need you to loan her, when a simple spell can give her to me…Severus?"
Without any further instruction, he struck. An inaudible spell that took the blood from his arm, and another that held me restrained. My uncle then turned his wand on my master, and with a simple, unforgivable curse, ended his life.
It was only minutes later, after more painfully familiar spells that I hadn't heard since that day in the woods with Shade, which I was given a new master. A master whose name wizards around the world dared to speak.
I was a slave to Voldemort.
