Caius had sensed this feeling before. The seeress had just recently been reborn. There was no way he could mistake this to mean something else. He knew exactly where to find her. His role as a Guardian automatically gave him the ability to locate the reincarnated Yeul.
He arrived at the home of this version of Yeul's parents. "I have come for the seeress," he told the man at the door. The man sadly nodded, as he understood what this meant. He walked back further into the room towards the woman holding the baby.
Her eyes widened as she spotted Caius at the door. "No, it's too soon. Can't I have more time with her?"
"I'm sorry, darling. You know we can only keep her for two weeks." The man told his wife as he gently took their daughter from her arms.
Yeul's mother wept into her own hands as her father handed her to Caius. Her father barely held a few tears as he said, "Take care of her."
Caius nodded. "I'll never do any less." The age-old Guardian walked away until that house was out of sight.
After some time passed, Caius gazed at the infant he cradled in his arms. She was sleeping so peacefully, almost like an angel.
"Yeul…" He whispered as a single tear fell down his face. He wondered how she could sleep so calmly when she would inevitably die young. It pained him to consider the possibility that such a young baby could even be aware of that fate. He always shrugged that thought off because it seemed too absurd to be real. That still did not explain why that always came back into his line of thinking.
Caius stroked her dark blue hair gently. Yeul opened her eyes slowly. She lifted her tiny hand and grasped one of his fingers as his hand began to pull away. Yeul may have been too young to smile yet, but Caius felt that she would have in this moment if she could. Caius almost came to a sad smile himself wondering what kind of person she would become. No matter what dreams and hobbies she would develop made no difference to him. He would still love her. He always had before.
His eyes widened as he saw the look in Yeul's face and eyes. She was having another vision. Her life had shortened already. Before he recorded this new premonition, he made a vow. "This must end."
Caius did not know how yet, but he would come up with a plan to end this cycle forever. The tears, the partings, the pain: he would put an end to it all, no matter what it took.
A/N: I apologize if there are any inaccuracies from the source material, but this idea came to me and I did my best with it. I hope you liked it even if it's short. Thanks for reading!
