Katniss,
I'm glad you won. I'm glad Peeta didn't die. I'm glad you're okay. I wish I had lived.
But then you'd be dead, wouldn't you? And you were the one that changed Panem.
I'm glad there are no more Hunger Games. I'm glad you and Peeta are happy. I look at your kids and smile.
I feel old, but death does that to you. I don't feel twelve years old anymore. I still remember your song, the lullaby. You honored my last wish. You made me more than a piece in the games.
Deep in the meadow
Under a willow
A bed of grass
A soft green pillow
I know. I've seen it from where I am. I know. Johanna Mason. Finnick Odair. President Snow, President Coin. Peeta Mellark, Gale Hawthorne. Haymitch Abernathy. CInna, Octavia, Venia, Flavius. The Avox Lavinia. Darius. Plutarch Heavensbee. Madge Undersee. Delly Cartwright. Your Mother.
And then there's Primrose Everdeen.
Now I know who she was.
Your sister.
Here it is safe
And here it is warm
Here the daisies guard you
From every harm
I reminded you of her. Then she, reminded you of me. But we were both our separate people. I remember whistling the song in the orchards, and I remember whistling the song in the Arena.
You remember the uprising in district 11, and you remember listening for it that first time you were in the Arena.
Katniss, you are beautiful. Your songs, your voice- I fell to sleep to you singing a lullaby, and left in a blanket of flowers.
I've seen Primrose, Prim as you called her, up in this place we call heaven. I've never spoken to her, but I have seen her. She misses you. Her mother. The goat. Her cat. But she is as happy as she can be without you and everything she's known.
I hope your life stays happy. I hope you see peace. I hope you remember love. I hope you remember me.
I wish we never had to step foot in the Arena, but then, all tributes and Victors wish that.
Lay down your head
And close your eyes
And when they open
They sun will rise
Rue
