Germany November 1944…
He sat in the cell listening to the screams of the other prisoners. "Why was I born on this earth? Was it only so I could die?" The man asked lost in his despair. He heard footsteps walking through the hall and the cries of the other prisoners. He caught a glimpse of the man he was chubby with blond hair dressed in a standard soldier's uniform followed by another soldier and what seemed to be a doctor. He paid no attention to them unlike the other fools who were reaching from the bars begging for freedom.
Hours must of past hours of hearing that nonstop begging and whimpering that made him sick "You're all going to die anyway fucking retards what does it matter if you beg?"
Then it all fell silent and he heard a chuckle "How amusing a prisoner that doesn't fear death? Or is it that you have merely accepted the possibility of death? Your records don't list your name why is that?"
He looked up at the fat man not really giving a damn if he was a Nazi officer "You people took everything from me my family my life even my name all you did was leave me with this number on my wrist."
"Oh!" The Major exclaimed "Oh now I see your nobody? Just another nameless walking corpse is that it?"
"Yeah I guess I am a dead man walking in many regards. I was drifter on my own since the day I was born." He leaned his head against the wall starring at the ceiling "I'm the living dead in so many ways."
"With your level of apathy I should say so though." The Major started to laugh "Well you're not the living dead not… yet my friend."
"Huh what do you mean by that?"
The Major started to walk away but with a cruel smile he looked back at the prisoner "Let's just say that if you prove to be successful unlike the others you may finally find a reason to live again."
"Like what?"
The Major gave him a twisted glare merged with a smile "The pursuit of death to seek death and to bring death."
"Is that what you have made your purpose?" The Prisoner asked faintly becoming interested. "I don't understand if you seek death why not simply kill yourself?"
The Major burst out laughing "I can't simply kill myself to kill myself! Think about it my friend."
As the prisoner watched him leave all he could bring himself to say was "Crazy fuck how did he ever become an officer in the military? Still he raises an interesting idea seeking death to spare yourself a pathetic end like suicide isn't entirely a bad idea. It beats the hell out having to put a gun to your own head and pulling the trigger." With that the prisoner continued to laugh his laughter haunting the build.
Meanwhile the Major heard the laughter from behind the closed door he walked down the hall up the stairs into his office "Oh Doctor I do believe we've found our next test subject!" The Major shouted gleefully.
