"Sakura!" Someone was calling her name. She stirred slightly, but did not awaken. "SAKURA!" The voice was more insistent this time, jarring her from her sleep. Standing over her was someone familiar to her. She knew that much. But their face was so distorted with fear that it took her a minute to register who the voice belonged to. Kino. To see so much fear on the traveler's face frightened the young girl. Everything she knew about Kino told her that she was a rational person, not prone to emotional breakdowns. She hadn't thought anything could scare the older girl. Furthermore, why was Kino still here? Tonight was the night that the volcano was going to erupt. Why hadn't she left? As her senses returned to her the girl noticed for the first time that they weren't in her village, but in the forests outside of it. This night didn't seem to follow the rules that normally dictated conditions after sunset. It was unnaturally bright and there was a loud rumbling that seemed to come from behind her. Stranger and stranger.

"What's wrong Kino?" The girl had to raise her voice slightly to be heard over the roaring sound.

Kino opened her mouth as if to say something, but no audible sound came out. She looked at her hands unsure of how to explain what was going on. Finally she pointed to something past Sakura's head and the girl turned around to see what she was pointing to and she screamed. Somewhere nearby Hermes was explaining the finer scientific points of the pyroclastic flow that was rushing towards the village where Sakura had grown up. But she couldn't hear him. She couldn't hear anything. She couldn't see anything. She couldn't do anything. All she could do was scream.
