She looked up at the ceiling above her, reaching her hands out towards the darkness she saw.
Sighing, she dropped them, and clutched onto the pillow to her right. She knew this was coming, and she didn't know how to approach it.
Nico knew this shouldn't have been a problem whatsoever, but being the dumb child with no experience in actually maintaining a long lasting friendship with someone, she just couldn't do it the same way she wished she would.
Especially when that someone was the light of your life.
"—Hey, Nico-chan?"
She blinked tears away for the umpteenth time today.
No, she was thinking to herself again. Delusional, as usual.
Nico sat up straight to look at her pink phone that laid next to her atop the small drawer. Suddenly, it had rung,
"Ah! Maki, what's up?" Nico started happily, putting up a front for her. "Nico-chan, isn't it New Years already? Ahh, it's still Eve's here in San Fransisco." Maki replied, hearing a slight disappointment in her voice.
"Wow, Maki managed to survive another plane flight that's 9 hours long? I thought you were afraid." Nico joked.
This was fun.
Or so she continued to believe. Her train of thoughts was interrupted,
"Nico? Are you still up?" Nico heard an accent come from the other end. Ah, it must've been Eli. Her accent wasn't that noticeable, but you could probably recognize it.
"Y-Yeah, I'm still here. Nico's just, y'know, Nico-nii'ng her way through New Years." She replied reluctantly. "Look, Nico, you...you need to move on from this, okay?"
Nico didn't respond.
"Nico, every one of us from µ's is worried about yo—"
"How the fuck am I supposed to move on from this?" She snapped, interrupting the Russian from continuing her statement about how all of her 'friends' was worried.
Hah, as if she already didn't hear this from fucking Honoka already.
"Eli— Maki's fucking dead, okay? I'm not going to accept the fact that my fucking crush is dead. On the flight that could've taken her to a place with great opportunities. And look, she's never going to have those opportunities again. Jesus Christ, I should've been selfish. I should've been with her, I should've asked her to stay—"
"Nico—"
"I should've fucking told her 'I love you', but all I said was fucking 'goodnight'?! What the fuck Nico?!"
Nico complained, harming herself verbally because of all the things she should've done.
After all, falling in love required to fall for someone.
And Maki wanted to fall for Nico, but she'll never know that. Nico will never know either.
They were both afraid of heights.
