At the beginning he saw nothing, heard nothing and felt nothing. But then gradually the emptiness, the void surrounding him started to dissipate. He felt something enveloping him so he closed his eyes, and when he opened them just a few moments later, he was blinded by the pure white light surrounding him. It took him a while to adjust to his surroundings but when his sight finally returned, he was completely shocked by what he saw around him or lack thereof. There was only the colour white. As far as his eyes could see, there was nothing but absolute whiteness. He felt like he was standing in the middle of an endless blank sheet of paper. Is this how life after death was supposed to be?
During his time alive Ace hadn't really dwelled over the fact as to what would happen once he departed from the mortal realm, but this, whatever this was, wasn't what he had expected. There were no big gates paving the way into heaven where he was sure his mother was resting or hell where he was sure he would meet the devil that was his father. But to his disappointment, there was nothing that would indicate what was going to happen to him next. There was just an endless stretch of whiteness which was now starting to make him uncomfortable.
He couldn't tell how much time had passed since he had arrived here and wondered if he was going to be stuck here forever, in the middle of this blank paper. Soon, all he could think about was leaving, he couldn't stand the whiteness any longer. And that's when he felt a tingling sensation in his feet. He looked down immediately and saw that his feet were slowly fading. He cried out in surprise but there was no sound. He tried shouting at the top his of lungs but he heard nothing. This was it then, he thought, he was going to disappear forever. He closed his eyes and sighed softly, his end had finally come, he was finally being relieved. He smiled, he had no regrets…
In an instant his eyes flashed open and the realization hit him, he was going to go away forever. He had no regrets but just one last time, just one more time he wanted to see his brother's smiling face.
One minute he was fading into whiteness and the next he was in a forest. He heard noises, his name being called, Luffy's voice.
He tried to move but his feet were fixed on the spot, he tried to shout again but there was no sound.
Suddenly Luffy came into view. He was standing right before him, crying his eyes out, calling for Ace.
And Ace was standing right there, just a few feet away from him.
He was right there, but he couldn't do anything. He stretched out his hands, wanting to wipe away the tears from his brother's eyes. He stretched out his hands, wanting to embrace his brother. He stretched out his hands in the hopes of reaching his brother. He wanted to reassure Luffy, tell him that it was okay, it was all going to be okay. He wanted to touch him, hold him and tell him that he was right there. He will always be there, watching over him.
One last time he stretched out his hand, and that was all. There was no forest, no whiteness. Portgas D. Ace had met his end.

A/N: Lie down, try not to cry, cry a lot. (reviews are always appreciated and they usually stop the tears)
