-Data's POV-

This is not right.

I find myself preoccupied with trying to process all that has happened today. My close friend, Natasha Yar, has been killed. In addition, Counselor Troi and Lieutenant Prieto are currently prisoners in their damaged shuttlecraft... which we cannot reach because you are blocking the way.

You are also the one who killed Tasha. I suppose if I were human, I might feel a wish for revenge toward you.

Instead, you are an intensely puzzling focus for my attention. I have never encountered an alien like you, nor is there any record of such a creature in my memory banks. You introduced yourself as 'Armus,' but what does that mean? It provides me with little information about who or what you truly are.

Yet, as I consider your situation and our own away team's impasse at your hands, I reach an unsettling conclusion. There seems to be no compassion or kindness in you, only a deep, total concentration of evil. But at the same time it is clear - very clear even to me - that you are in a great deal of emotional pain.

Both of these facts lead me to the same thought.

You should be destroyed.

If this had been done long ago, my friend Tasha would not now be dead.

If this had been done long ago, you also would have been spared many empty and meaningless years of suffering.

I do not like to advocate the death of any living thing. But in your case, it is the best answer I can find. Since it has not happened before, I believe it should happen now, before you or anyone else are forced to endure any further pain.

Still, this decision is not mine to make.

That duty rests with the captain.
