Rin just wasn't feel it today. He wasn't feeling school, he wasn't feeling homework, he wasn't feeling anything. Most of all, he wasn't feeling like a teenager. Sure, teenagers had a lot on their plates with school and sports, but that wasn't Rin's style. He was more of the 'fly by the seat of your pants and hope your life ends up decent' type.
This whole becoming an exorcist thing was a lot of work. He had regular high school, then cram school, then homework, then he usually made dinner, and then it was already time for bed. Day in and day out he followed this routine. He needed a break.
High school had just ended and he was slowly, very slowly making his way to cram school. Rin looked around at his surroundings as he tried to come up with an excuse to skip.
It seemed hopeless until he spotted blonde hair. Shiemi! Didn't he make a promise with her about going somewhere? Oh yeah! The carnival! That was the perfect escape. Rin ran up to the blonde and put on a smile.
"Hey Shiemi!"
The blonde looked at him, a bit taken back by his sudden approach, but then returned the smile. "Hello Rin. Are you excited for class today?"
"Well, I was hoping maybe the two of us could do something fun instead?" Rin propositioned. Shiemi's face turned red at the suggestive tone, causing Rin to sputter. "A-ah, I m-mean like the carnival! Remember when we made plans to go back sometime?"
"But Rin!" Shiemi gasped. "We can't skip class! We'd be breaking the rules. Especially if it's not due to illness or something serious." Rin gave the blonde a pat on her shoulder.
"Oh, Shiemi. We have our whole lives to be awesome exorcists. Let's go have some fun now while we're still young! What do you say?" Rin propositioned again, hoping Shiemi would take the bait. Truth be told, he didn't actually need Shiemi to go with him in order to skip class, but he enjoyed being in her presence. And that sounded much more enjoyable than being alone in his dorm.
After a few moments of contemplation, Shiemi nodded. "You're right. My grandma always encouraged me to take breaks from the gardening to go have fun. I suppose the same applies to school, too."
"Now that's what I'm talking about!" Rin said ecstatically as he pumped a fist in the air. "Come on, Shiemi! This will be the best day you ever had." And with that, Rin grabbed the blonde's hand and they ran off in the direction of the carnival.
