This is an entry for Maristela Freesa's 100 Theme Challenge! I'm going to try and do all of them…probably not succeeding…but anyway all of these will be about Peeta and Katniss! The BEST pairing EVER! This contains spoilers for Mockingjay so read at your own risk!
DISCLAIMER: I do not own the Hunger Games in any way, shape or form. I'm a mere worshipper(:
I ran and ran through the dense forest as my dress was torn, scratched and scorched. My breathing was heavy, my hair was a mess and I was covered with sweat. Something was chasing me. I came to a dead end, blocked by a fallen tree. I turned around in a circle, looking for an exit. I found myself faced with mutts. One of them was a wolf-like thing, the one with Rue's eyes. The one I saw in the first games. Then, the monkeys from the second Games, the ones that almost killed Peeta. Then, the one that decapitated Finnick. They were closing in on me. The monkey's fangs were inches from my throat when I felt a hand shaking my shoulder.
"Katniss…Katniss wake up!" I woke up, panting. My throat was coarse, so I assumed I had been screaming.
The strong hands of my husband, Peeta, held my forearms and looked into my grey eyes. I was shaking, and I felt sweat run down my neck. I felt wetness on my cheeks, and realized I had been crying.
"Hey, hey. Shh…it's alright. It's over." He kissed a tear off my cheek and held my face in his hands.
Peeta and I had just recently gotten married. In a month, it would be our 1-year anniversary. He had been hinting about kids, but even though there were no Hunger Games, I was still afraid. The wedding was an okay size. About two-thirds the size of Finnick and Annie's. Peeta decorated the cake, and I (against my will) sang a song to Peeta at the wedding. It's not that I didn't want to sing to him it's just I didn't want to sing.
But, Peeta insisted so I might as well. I didn't wear a wedding gown, but I wore a simple white frock. Peeta wore a suit that Gale brought him from District 2.
Yes, Gale came to the wedding. It was awkward, I'll admit but I didn't let that get in the way of having a great time. I danced with him, and even though I was married to Peeta, they still gave each other those looks. You know? The ones that say Back off! Or I hate you…
I'm sure you can tell who gave what look.
For the honeymoon, Peeta and I had decided to go to District 4, to see Annie and her boy. She still looked grief stricken because of Finnick, but she still talked to us about everything.
Peeta and I did make love on our honeymoon, but we still used protection. It was paid for in the morning…sore. Very sore.
A kiss on my temple woke me back up into reality. I looked up and met the blue eyes of Peeta.
"I love you," I said. Peeta smiled and kissed my nose.
"I know. I love you, too."
