A/N: (old) Okay guys so this is written for the 100 theme challenge, the category is love so please enjoy :D this is actually from a fanfic I am writing, I implied that two OC's were talking and here it is : ) (new) going through old stories today I found this and almost cried, my writing (I hope) has improved, so I rewrote it. Tell me what you think please.
I ascend the stairs slowly, paronia kicking in as I continuesly sweep my gaze over every shadow and hug the wall behind me. I finally reach the top and slowly lift the trap door, gazing at the beautiful scene laid out before me. Tiny, colored people swarm through the streets, oblivious to what they do to us daily. They don't know any better; they're like puppies killing a rabbit, or a cat killing a mouse. They can't understand what's wrong with it and just go back for more.
The door opens the rest of the way and two warm arms encase me, assisting me out of the hole. I feel flutters of warmth in my stomach and breath in the scent that surrounds me, smiling slightly.
"Hi Ethan." I say shyly. He just moves away and looks at me, waiting. His eyes are sunken, large dark circle lie underneath his beautiful baby blues. He has lost all the cute baby fat, his cheek bones now protruding under the skin. I knew he had loved me, but before me now I see that it was not puppy love like I had once thought. He didn't just love me because I was his first girlfriend.
Only seconds have passed, and yet we are staring into each other's eyes like the last few months never happened. As if there wasn't a huge space between us. One I had caused.
"I thought you loved me," His voice is a mere whisper, a flower petal lost on the wind.
"I wasn't sure, I needed time to thinkā¦"
"It's been four months."
"I know," I tell him, desperate to explain why I had hurt him " and all I know now is that I love you as a friend, but I'm not sure if I like you as anything else, please Ethan I don't want to lose you."
"It's the hunger games, you're going to lose me."
"Not if you win." I assure him
"But for me to win, you would have to die and I will not let that happen. I've lived without you, and I don't want to experience that ever again."
"What if it came down to the two of us?"
"You wouldn't have to worry about it, you would get home." A tear escapes my eyes and I lean forward to wrap my arms around him, whispering in his ear. He pulls back, putting a single finger under my chin and forcing my eyes to look into his. More tears flow out as he presses his lips to mine, feather light a brief, but sweet and comforting.
"It's not enough though." I nod and he walks away. I exit down the trap door and Amelia, our escort catches my arm.
"I couldn't help but watch, but the camera didn't pick up what you whispered sweetie." She informs me, a questioning look on her face.
"I love you."
