You know you're in marching band if…..

The majority of your stories start with 'this one time at band camp'

It's normal to lock your drum major in a closet and act like nothing happened

When someone claps 4 times to automatically stand up

You high mark to class….

…when people ask what you a doing you give them a look like they are idiots

When your percussion instructor yells out 'Waffles' it is perfectly normal for a percussionist to respond

Your instrument has a name

Glitter is such a normal occurrence you don't notice it anymore

Your biggest accomplishment is when the circle set actually looks like a circle

You could fill a book with random quotes your director says (C as in Sasquatch!)

You pull out random things from your 'awkward pocket' likes it's a purse

The football field is not a football field, but a marching field

Halftime is not to entertain the audience, but a dress rehearsal for competitions

Neck strap tan lines are normal

So are glasses tans

You freak out when you find out that your band finally got their own moving truck for percussion

It is an unsaid rule that you blame everything on percussion

You and your fellow instrument player plan the ultimate demise to one of the flute players via text message

Someone in your band has gotten a major injury…..during water break

Seeing the percussion wearing blue masks that cover their whole face is not creepy

Seniors marching dripping wet after water breaks only means one thing…water wars!

Finally being ability to call seniority over someone is amazing (even if it is over the seventh graders)

You love to annoy the seniors by saying 'this is the last time you will …...'

Calling set in a southern accent is hilarious

Bus rides are awesome

Having fewer than 10 bruises on your legs is something of a miracle

You haven't had the full marching band experience until you've been hit by a member of the guard at least once

You laugh at the guard when they have to do their choreography on a muddy field…the stop when you realize you have to kneel in a mud puddle

Winning a canoe paddle at the end of the day at band camp is cause for celebration

You frequently start drum line face offs with visiting bands

You find yourself cheering the cheerleader's cheers during class

You can't wait until you are alumni so you can stand on the scaffolding during band practice

During practice you start play the show music from last year

You find yourself marching to the tune of the cadence in the halls…

…and when people ask you what you are singing, you smile and keep walking

You were so into a song, your drumsticks split in half during the song

A/N – review and tell me if there are any others you want to add

And finally I must say:

POWER TO THE SMALL BANDS

(because my band has 43 members [horn line, percussions, guard and drum major])
