Amnesia
A Princess Tutu fanfic by Klondike Aura
They could do without the eyes.
It's nothing new to Rue, being adored and fawned over, and Fakir's had his share of attention, too. But both of them will be glad when the shock wears off and their time as the hot news at school is over.
Fakir is good at ignoring the stares, though, and he presses his hand into the strange resistance in the small of his girlfriend's back, leading her in their pas de deux. Rue's hand comes to his cheek, her nails long and threatening to bite into his skin.
They smile without any illusions of blushing, no special gleam in their eyes.
Her arms are tight around his when they finally leave the practice room, daring others to object. And they can hear the whispers about their coldness, how all of their consideration and compassion completely evaporated. But their classmates didn't understand; no one could.
Their sole interruption on their way to town is a brief moment passing Mytho. He simply stands and stares, obviously pining but, despite the rumors around the academy, not for Rue. And it makes the ballerina tighten her fingers into her partner's arm. But neither of them stop smiling. If anything, Fakir's smirk turns sharper as he leans to murmur in Rue's ear.
"He doesn't even have enough sense to be jealous," he tells her.
Rue laughs, wonderfully haughty. And Fakir doesn't know why but it reminds him of a crow. The thought itches at something that seems like it should be in his mind but isn't quite there. He continues forward without warning, his punishment to Rue for not having blue eyes. She barely keeps up with a huff.
It's not the first time something like this has happened since they started dating. Sometimes he hesitates before he says Rue's name, like he's searching for another. And when he does, his mouth moves the same way Mytho's does when he looks at her but misses someone else.
It's standard high school drama. Of course things like this would happen to the three most popular students in the ballet division.
That's all they are, in spite of what their minds try and fail to call up. Everything from before turned into a speck of light and vanished.
Author's Notes: Somehow this came up from a request to write some creepy FakirxRue. It's essentially the answer to, "What if Duck, as Princess Tutu, DID confess her feelings to Mytho in words?"
