A Drabble for the SPN100 Challenge

Challenge Word: Star

Summary: Dean may have only had one example of parenting, but it doesn't mean that his dad had all the answers. Maybe he could do a better job.

Notes: During the year that Dean was with Lisa and Ben, with a brief recollection of Dean's youth.

"Mom, Dean, look! I got a gold star" Ben beamed as he handed Dean the paper.

Dean's thoughts drifted back; he was eleven, just home from school.

"Dad, look! I got a gold star!"

John looked, glowered, then tossed the paper on the bed. "Gold star in bullshit." He tossed Dean a rifle. "Here, gold star this, you need the practice."

Dean learned his father's priorities quickly.

Over his nostalgia, Dean looked at Ben. Then he smiled, stood up, and gave the kid a hug.

"Great job! Keep it up."

Ben smiled back. Dean was determined to do this right.
