Ruth stared at the wall, the phone had fallen from her grasp as she felt herself pull away from reality. The caller on the other end of the line called her name but it didn't register. It wasn't until Ros picked the phone up from the floor and began to speak to the caller that Ruth knew she had to focus. It was lies, there was no way that what she had just been told was the truth. There was no way. At best the man had been mistaken. At worst he was a liar.
"Ruth?" She wiped her eyes as Ros spoke calmly. "Ruth, come on."
Ruth blinked. She knew that she should react. That she should be doing something. Rod swore under her breath.
"Do you want me to tell Catherine?"
"No." Ruth shook her head. "No, I should do that."
Ros nodded, knowing the young analyst would be devastated. She didn't want to be there when Ruth told her.
"Ok."
"Harry." Ruth spoke calmly but her fingers twisted her wedding ring around her finger. Fidgeting was always a way of telling that she was in turmoil. Ros sat her down on the old red sofa they all wished he would replace.
"I'll drive you to the morgue. The police want his next of kin to identify him."
"He's not there."
"Ruth. A man fitting Harry's description was found with Harry's wallet in the alleyway behind Harrods. Why would someone else have his wallet?" Ros knelt in front of her as she shook her head.
"It's not Harry." Ruth sounded like a defiant teenager. "I'd know. I'd feel it."
"Ok." Ros nodded. "So prove me wrong. Come to the morgue."
Ruth glared at her friend before standing up. She smoothed her skirt down before turning. She felt her knees begin to buckle beneath her as she looked out through Harry's office window. Ros caught her swearing as she turned to see the man walk through the pods; alive and by all appearances the same as ever.
"What the fuck?" Ros mumbled as Harry crossed the Grid towards them. Ruth composed herself slightly, wiping her tears away.
"I told you."
"I. How?"
Harry marched into his office as Ros tactfully pulled the blinds before leaving them together.
"Ruth? You're shaking." He crossed to her as she shook her head.
"You died. They called me. Asked me to identify your body."
"I'm ok."
"Harry. I?" She hugged him tightly as he buried his face in her shoulder, letting her cry her heart out.
"It wasn't me. I've been in Bow police station for an hour. My wallet was stolen.." he explained. "My civilian one, not the one with my credentials in. Your mobile number would be there."
Ruth nodded as she breathed in his aftershave.
"I thought I'd lost you."
"No chance." He kissed her hair as she held him tightly.

"Ros?"
"What?" She turned to see Beth walking towards her.
"Are you ok?"
"Always."
"Why is Ruth so upset? Don't tell me to mind my own business. I'm a spy." Beth sipped her tea as Ros shrugged.
"Someone is playing silly buggers." She kept her face dead pan as Beth frowned. "Either that or someone really did want us to think Harry was dead."
"What?" Adam approached them. "Why?"
"That's what I intend to find out."
