Disclaimer: I don't own them…sorry! Just a fan! I don't own Starbucks either…sorry!
He was gone...yup...Gone for good? He didn't know but he wasn't there anymore, yes…He as somewhere out there in the world but not where he needed to be. Ok...the truth was clear, and not as dramatic as he was making it, he knew where he was…New Hampshire or Massachusetts. They weren't Nevada though…the big, neon, flashy…place that he called home.
"The history of this place is crazy!" Jay said from the back seat. "I can't wait to investigate!"
"Yeah…me too," Aaron said looking out the window at the landscape. "But the lack of Starbucks is really unsettling"
Zak didn't say anything as they drove along, he always enjoyed the chatter in the van as they drove…now it was different. He missed him…he did, he wouldn't admit it to Aaron, Jay or Billy...but he did.
"Zak….are you with us?" Billy asked taking one hand off the wheel to tap him on the shoulder.
"Jesus Nick…" Zak said without even realizing it.
"Nick? No…Billy…" he said focusing back on the road.
Zak swore to himself up and down in his mind…he couldn't believe that he called Billy "Nick." It wasn't like he could pretend that he didn't say it…because he totally did and everyone heard it. He hoped that they were at the location soon…he needed to lie down. They arrived at the hotel they were staying at 20 minutes later…it was only a quick five minutes from the location they were filming.
"Finally!" Jay said barely letting Billy turn off the ignition before he jumped out.
"Yup...here we are," Aaron said. "All four of us unless someone else is here that we don't see."
"Zak you got anybody?" Billy asked him as they all got out of the car.
He didn't answer; he wasn't concerned at the moment what the guys thought of him or what he said. They gathered up everything that they needed and proceeded into the hotel. After checking into their rooms, everyone went their separate ways for a much needed rest after such a long ride.
"I said it didn't I?" Zak said out loud to himself as he lay on the bed looking at the ceiling. "Why did I have to say it?"
Zak replayed the entire scenario over and over again in his mind, he didn't mean to obsess but it was what it was. Suddenly a knock on the door interrupted his train of thought, groaning he got off the bed and headed to the door.
"Are you Ok Zak?" Aaron asked after Zak let him in and he closed the door.
"Fine...just tired," Zak responded quickly.
"Nope…I don't believe you," Aaron said. "Come on bro, you called Billy "Nick""
"I know…" Zak said. "It was an accident…slip of the tongue…nothing more."
"I miss him too, you know." Aaron said. "We can go see him anytime we want, you know that."
Zak nodded; he knew that Aaron was right about this, they could go anytime that they wanted to, no phone call was ever needed. Zak and Aaron sat in silence for a few minutes.
"Well...I'll let you rest," Aaron said getting up to go the door.
"Thanks Aaron," Zak said watching him walk out the door.
The investigation went extremely well, they were able to get a lot of good evidence and a ton of EVPs. Zak was happy to have something that would keep his mind off of Nick, at least for a while.
A Few Weeks Later
Zak pulled into the parking spot and opened the driver's side door, he sighed deeply and got out of the car. Locking the car, he made his way to see Nick…every step made him more nervous and every step he tried to talk himself out of it. His mind was telling him to turn back, he knew that he had time no one had seen him, and still he went on pushing those thoughts out of his head. He walked, his pulse quickening with every step that he took, his final destination was within his reach.
"Hi Nick," Zak said reaching out to put his hand on top of the gravestone.
