Rick's fingers gently worked the corner of the page. His eyes moved across the page once more scanning the last line of the paper, taking in the small black letters that then flowed into words, the words forming one of many stories in the small world of the book that Rick was holding in left hand. He flipped the page, knowing the woman, whose head was currently on his thigh had finished reading long before he had. He knew her eyes were darting back and forth across the thin pages of the book, her mind racing in all direction, dying to know what was going to happen next. Kate Beckett was never one to leave something unfinished, a book or a case. That's one of the many things he loved about her. He only chanced quick glances when he knew she wasn't watching him read, whether her attention on the people around them or on the book in his hand or on the way his hand was stroking the large swell on her abdomen.
The fall air around the couple was crisp. The leaves were yellow and red and occasional orange tossed in. They were occupying one of the park benches nestled beneath the multi-colored trees. Rick sitting with his body turned just enough so Kate could read the book in his hand. His left hand holding open the book for them to read, his right rested on her swollen stomach his fingers skating in random patterns across the bump. Their fingers snagging on one anothers' over their baby. Kate was lying with her head resting on his thigh, and her feet dangling off of the end of the bench. Her left hand caressing her large belly, her right hanging limply off the bench, her long fingers massaging the basset hound on the ground beside her. The basset had been Rick's idea, he'd named him Sherlock and surprised Kate on her birthday nearly two years ago.
Rick had just finished, it was the end of a chapter, he was turning the page, preparing to start a new chapter when Kate gasped beside him.
"Kate? Are you okay?" He asked urgently, folding the book on his other leg, so as not to lose their page. She caught his eye, beaming, glowing with happiness. She grabbed the hand that had been stroking her belly only seconds before, before she had started, frightening him. She moved his hand to a spot on the side of the swollen bump. Placing it beside hers, she smiled at him, waiting. "What?" He asked after a few still moments.
"Just wait." She whispered. He did, a minute passed, he was opening his mouth to ask again what he was waiting for exactly when he felt a firm kick to his hand. He gasped. Kate laughed softly next to him. "Our son." She smiled up at him, her eyes glistening. He bent his head to kiss her softly. Sherlock whined beside them, wondering why the attention was no longer on him.
"Our son." He agreed against her lips.
Okay so a while back someone asked any series finales. Lots of people said maybe Beckett dies. I don't think so. This is my series finale for you guys. :)
A while back Stana said in season 7 they would have baby boy. I could see that in their future. But there it was.
Tell me what you thought! :)
