A young, light pink haired alicorn trotted through a garden, stopping often to admire flowers that caught her eye. The chirping of the crickets on this serene moonlit night always calmed her mind after a nightmare.

Suddenly, she noticed a tall figure in the dark, hidden by shadows. The alicorn lit up her horn with a light yellow aura and followed, assuming it was just a statue.

The figure spoke. "Hello", it said in a male teenage voice.

The alicorn jumped back with a gasp, making her makeshift flashlight flicker.

"Oh, sorry!" the voice said. "I didn't mean to startle you! Is this your garden?"

Her pink haired head bobbed slowly up and down.

"Sorry!" the male replied. "I'll just leave then…"

"Wait!" she cried.

The figure turned his head and stepped into the moonlight, and suddenly the young alicorn got a full look at him. He was tall, slightly bigger than her, and looked like a pony at the head, but his body was made up of several different animals, including a lion paw, eagle claw, and snake tail. He had two mismatched horns on his head, a single fang, and a mop of white hair on his head.

The figure noticed her staring and turned away. "I look funny, don't I?" he grumbled, his voice cracking.

She shook her head no and spoke to him for the first time. "What's your name?" she asked the mixed creature.

"Discord", he said, his voice quivering.

"Hi, Discord", the alicorn said with a smile. "I'm Celestia, but my friends call me Tia." "If I had any friends", she mumbled.

The teenager spoke up. "I'm sorry to waste your time, Celestia." He started to walk out of the garden, dragging his dragon leg and equestrian hoof.

"You can call me Tia," Celestia called. "And you can stay if you like. But where are your parents?" she questioned the adolescent.

"They're gone", he said bitterly. "They died in the avalanche that killed the rest of us. All but me…" His voice cracked.

"Rest of you? But what exactly ARE you?"

"A draconequus", he replied. "The last of my kind"

"Oh my…", Celestia breathed. "You must be very sad to live in a world that doesn't understand who you are." Under her breath she softly said, "I know how that feels"

Thanks to a draconequus' excellent hearing, he overheard her and perked up. "You do?"

"Well,,,sorta…" she mumbled. "Since I'm a princess and all", she opened her wings for more emphasis. "Everyone expects me to be a snob, so nopony makes an effort to be my friend when I'm allowed outside. And I'm homeschooled, so there's no chance I can get anypony to be my friend"

The alicorn stopped suddenly and put her pink haired head in her hooves, and the draconequus couldn't help but notice her shoulders shaking.

He put his lion paw on her shoulder. Celestia looked up, tears staining her face.

"Watch this"

Discord waved his paw and a glass appeared.

"How is THAT supposed to help?" she sobbed.

"Just watch"

He waved his paw again, and a small, pink cloud the color of the alicorn's mane suddenly came out of nowhere. As Celestia watched, the cloud started to pour a brown liquid.

Discord noticed her confusion and smiled, his single fang touching his bottom lip.

"It's chocolate milk"

"And the cloud is…"

"Cotton candy", the draconequus sighed.

"I've never tried either of these",

His face shot up in surprise, his red pupils small with shock against the yellow.

"WHAT?"

Tia sighed. "I told you I had a miserable life."

"Well", Discord replied. "Now you won't have to"
