- Five Yen -
He should have figured he was being stupid, he could admit. Actually, he didn't think the idea was being stupid until after Yukine told him so, after the incident.
In the morning, he'd run around endlessly, looking for his jar of yen, and his shinki had accused him of wanting to spend it on good luck charms that were all obviously scams. For the first time, Yato looked up, wagging his finger at his young protégé, and claimed he needed it for Hiyori. Of course, his first assumption was they were nearing her birthday or something of importance to her, but when Yukine glanced at the calendar, he saw otherwise. Turning back to the stray god, he wondered what he was doing, also hoping he was using the money for something useful, something of more priority than building a shrine.
Yukine bluffed him off, leaving the room to do something else-probably help Kofuku and Daikoku. Still looking for his bottle, there was a twinge of panic when he couldn't find it, but as begun to rummage around on the desk, he found it buried beneath a few loose papers and a crumpled jacket. Loudly, he let out a relieved groan, then a mischievous chuckle.
Taking what he needed out of his jar containing only coins for five yen, he set the bottle back somewhere obvious, and prepared himself to walk to wherever Hiyori was. Climbing out the window, he scaled down the roof and pounced down to the ground below. Thankfully, she lived some ways away from the bustling city, making it easy for Yato to swerve in and out between people. He spared a glance back in the direction of Kofuku's residency. Growing eager and impatient, he decided to take a shortcut.
Vanishing from his location on the sidewalk, he found himself standing in the hallway, his back pressed to the door leading into Hiyori's bedroom. Chuckling a bit, he twisted the doorknob and threw the door open. "Hi…yo…ri!" he exclaimed, his jaw dropping when he found himself staring into an empty room.
"What're you doing?"
Spinning around on his heel, he let out a cry of relief-something that sounded like a dying cat. Frantically, she pressed her hand to his mouth, shushing him. He puckered his lips in disappointment into her palm, and though muffled, Hiyori fully understood what he said. "They won't hear me," he said, waving his hand in dismissal.
Hiyori's eyebrows pulled together in distress, looking down the hallway to make sure he was right. "I know, but just play it safe, please?" With a slight nod, he dragged his tongue along her palm to have her pull it away. She did so, urgent, and wiped her spit-ridden hand on her coat.
"What're you doing here?" she said, undoing her coat and removing her scarf. It was obvious she had just come home, dressed for cold weather. Outside, it was barely warm enough to be regarded as spring. Yato watched her hang the coat behind her door, following her inside of her bedroom.
Digging his hand into his pocket, he couldn't resist himself from smiling. Rather quickly, the grin turned into something mischievous and cat-like. The look he wore was creepy, Hiyori thought. "I have a request of you," he said at length.
"Eh?" Hiyori cocked her head to the side, folding her scarf. Setting it down, her gaze trailed up to Yato, and he quickly closed the space between him, his grin growing deeper.
Pulling out a yen coin, he held in front of her, exclaiming in a cliché tone, "You heard me, Iki Hiyori! I, the holy Delivery God Yato, have a request of you!" Leaning his head forward to get closer to her, he waved the coin in her face, hoping she would take it.
"Why should I?" she said, a sort of cruel smirk rising up onto her lips. "You still haven't fulfilled my request."
Yato choked. It felt like a took a bullet to his heart, which allowed his thoughts to wander to Bishamonten for a moment, but he shook them off. "But… Hiyori," he whined. She giggled a bit, taking the yen coin from his hand as he let out soft wailing noises.
"Fine, fine," she said, looking down at the coin between her fingers. "What is it?"
The sinister look returned. "Kiss me," he said, laughing rather loudly and abruptly.
Her heart stopped for a moment-but not in a good way. Instinctively, she threw the coin back at him and kicked him in the side, watching him topple to the floor. Frantically, she covered her face, her cheeks heating up. Peeking between her fingers, she looked down at him, watching him writhe in silent pain. Internally, he could feel Yukine saying how stupid of an idea it was. He imagined the lecture in his head, bringing him more pain as he sobbed.
"Sorry, Yato…" she said, crouching down beside him, lightly petting his head. "Maybe you could ask Bishamon for that one."
A/N: Hello, hello! I just recently joined this fandom, so this is my first fanfic for Noragami! I have a lot of experience with Fairy Tail, so it's easier for me to write for that, but thankfully, these characters aren't too hard to portray… I think? I hope that they didn't seem too out of character! However, I do love this series, and Yatori is destroying me u
I hope that you'll leave a review for me to read, and I hope you'll tell me what you thought, liked, and didn't like! (Pointers on making the characters seem more "in character" would also be appreciated!) Also, if you like Fairy Tail, I would love it if you would check out my other fanfics-especially Breaking the Boundary!
Thank-you!~
