Disclaimer: I am not a JK Rowling, or I'd have probably published a Marauders novel by now.
"Peter! Pete? Where is he?" James Potter and Sirius Black whirled into the Gryffindor common room, red-faced and out of breath. Strangely enough, this didn't put off the fangirls clustered in the room. Sirius waved them off. "You haven't seen Peter, have you?" he girls screwed up their faces at the mention of Pete, the vastly more unattractive Marauder, and shook their heads. In resignation, the two boys trooped upstairs to find a rat on their sheets
"AAAHHH! Get it off!" The rat fell off and turned into a dishevelled looking Peter.
"Oi! Do you mind?" James and Sirius just gaped at him.
"You're… You're an Animagus? Already?" James stuttered. Sirius was frozen in shock. "H-How?"
Peter shrugged.
"I was in the Common Room last night, and there were a bunch of your fangirls, and they were annoying me. And I thought of how, if I turned into a rat, I could scare them off. And then I realised I was much smaller than normal. And the girls screamed and ran off." Sirius broke out of his stupor.
"You'd known since last night and you didn't tell us? Why?" James suddenly looked like he'd had an epiphany.
"Sirius, how many rats have we seen today?" Sirius had a look of knowledge manifest on his face.
"Oh yeah…" Remus came into the room.
"What're you talking about?"
The three boys chorused, "Nothing!" and busied themselves getting ready for bed, making sure Remus missed the secretive smiles on their faces.

Sirius poked his head out the curtains surrounding his bed, and checked that Remus was asleep. James had mentioned last night that he was really close to transforming, and Sirius did not want him beating him. Besides, it would be cool to be a dog. He sighed. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get into his Animagus shape. He thought about Remus. What would happen if he couldn't do it? He couldn't abandon Moony. He noticed black, shaggy paws in front of him. Huh? How did they get there. Then he sniffed. Had his sense of smell just increased in a matter of five seconds? What was going on? Then something bit him. On his butt, no less. It was incredibly itchy, so he tried to scratch it, but found his leg was doing it, instead. His leg didn't bend that way. Then it hit him. He'd transformed! And before James, as well. He bounced off his bed and made his way over to James.

James rubbed his eyes. He thought it was about 2 in the morning, but he was desperately trying to transform. He couldn't think why it wasn't happening - for Merlin's sake, Pete had transformed yesterday. Pete, the kid who needed help with ALL his homework, always struggled in class, managed to complete a tricky transfiguration before him. It was ridiculous. He heard thumps and froze. The curtains were whisked aside and he found himself bowled over by a huge black dog. He fell off the bed, making small grunting sounds, but suddenly felt a banging sound echo through his head. What? It was like he had things sticking up from his head - wait a minute… Both the other boys woke up, blinking bleary eyes, as both Sirius and James rolled around, making barking and grunting noises respectively. They were joined by Peter's squeaks as he transformed, and all four animals suggestively looked at Remus, who was sitting on his bed, looking quite incredulous. Without warning, he flung himself off and onto them.
"You are the best friends a guy like me could have." he murmured into Sirius' fur. All three transformed back, and hugged him tightly.
"We'll always be there for you. Always."
