Butterflies and Flowers
It wasn't that Chouji was surprised to get a gift from Ino for his birthday. It wasn't like that at all.
He wasn't particularly expecting a gift, but receiving one wasn't a shock either. And he wasn't surprised by her choice in gift.
The feisty blond did happen to work in her family's flower shop so a bouquet of flowers was exactly the kind of thing she would give to her friends as a gift.
No, what surprised him was her choice of flowers.
Chouji stared incredulously at the proffered bouquet before hesitantly taking it in his hands, the white cellophane crinkling beneath his fingers.
He refused to believe Ino – who was like a walking, talking encyclopedia of flowers and their true definitions and meanings – had screwed up and picked out this particular batch of flowers on a whim.
"Ino…" Chouji said staring at the flowers in his hands, unable to think of a better thing to say.
And as Ino's friend and teammate of quiet a few years now, Chouji had on more than one occasion been treated to a lecture about their different meanings.
Ino was slightly red in the cheeks, hands planted firmly on her hips and looking everywhere but the birthday boy himself.
Chouji shook his head. There was simply no way he was seeing this. He glanced back down at the flowers in his hands.
"Just shut up and put them in water before they wilt." Ino snapped back in typical Ino fashion.
"Uh… Y-yeah."
Ino stormed off, blood rushing into her cheeks as she left, and all that Chouji could do was stare dumbly down at the flowers in his hands.
Slowly, as if afraid the flowers would wilt and die at his touch, Chouji flipped the small tag attached to them over to read the small print.
Ambrosia – Meaning/Definition: Your love is returned
A/N: I had planned to do a birthday fic for Chouji but it completely slipped my mind.. -.-
But as long as I get up before midnight it counts right? :D
So, enjoy a sweet lil' bit of InoCho.
Also, I did about twenty minutes if double checking and research about the flowers and their meanings, and eventually setteled with this. I'm pretty sure the meaning is correct, but hey; me and five sites could be wrong!
Happy birthday Chouji!
