His gaze is cold and calculating, his blue eyes hard like the sea on a cloudy day, and all she can think is that this is all so very wrong.
His eyes are the color of the summer sky and the corners of his mouth are always turned up a little as if he can't stop smiling, or maybe he wants to kiss her as much as she wants to kiss him. Toby doesn't look at her like this, like a stranger, like he doesn't trust her, the way he looks at everyone else in Rosewood, because she isn't everyone else, she's Spencer and with him she's different.
Then she thinks of A and Jenna and Wren and of him and thinks she's exactly the same.
But he asks her if she's all right.
His voice is flat, and he speaks the way he might have done a few months ago when he still thought she had helped blind his stepsister and she still thought he could've been a murderer.
It's funny – she'd forgotten that her hand is stinging dully. Forgotten, really, that there's any part of her other than her pounding heart.
She's not sure if she's lying when she tells him she's fine.
He may not trust her, but he still cares, and she wonders if they're past fixing.
a/n: i cried when spencer first went to talk to toby this week, no lie. i just had to remind myself to hang on because (SPOILER ALERT) i know they kiss in the finale so that helped.
anyway, i bet a lot of people really didn't realize that this was such a big moment because it did show that ^ toby still cared.
for anyone who read my other spoby one-shot, open sky, i just thought i'd let you know that i'm not turning it into a series so you can take it off alert. sorry guise. you just get these sporadic drabbles. :P
so. pretty please review, because i'll love you. but thanks for reading.
