Disclaimer: I'm not Cassandra Clare, the true owner of these characters.
"Jace, wait!" Clary called after him, knowing if she let him leave now, he'd never come back. And that wasn't what she wanted.
When she'd said she'd only wanted him to be her brother, she'd been lying. She'd done what she had vowed never to do: she'd listened to her head, and left her heart screaming no, breaking with every step Jace took away from her.
"Please, Jace!" She cried out, unwilling for him to reach the door, slam it in her face. She couldn't let him go, she just couldn't. "Jace... don't go, please!" She was begging now. How out of character. Jace seemed to sense her desperation, and opened the door.
"Outside, Clary." Clary scurried out, grateful that he was saving her from embarrassment in front of all the diners at Taki's. "What do you want from me, Clary?" He looked at her with a strange desperation etched into every line in his face. Their eyes met, tension fizzing between them. They were close enough to kiss, but they carefully avoided any contact.
The truth was, Clary didn't know what she wanted. She wanted it to be free, careless, free of angst and hurt. She wanted to be happy.
Then it hit her.
She wanted to be happy... with him.
If he didn't care what other people thought, why should she? They were just... just stuff. If they believed in each other, then wasn't that enough?
"I..." Her eyes raked over him as she tried to find the words to describe her feelings. "Sometimes I suck with words." Jace almost smiled.
"Sometimes words aren't the thing," He reminded her. For once his voice was devoid of sarcasm. She took a deep breath, preparing herself.
"You're right," She heard herself say in a voice that wasn't quite her own. "Love is about what you do."
Her eyes met his again. He was surprised: she could tell, just by the slight tightening of his features.
"If love beats us up..." If he could move closer, he would now. But still, they were obscenely careful not to touch.
"We'll beat it up right back." Clary smiled and the corners of Jace's mouth tugged up, just a little, almost unnoticeable. But Clary noticed. Clary noticed everything about him.
"If you're ready to take the jump..." Jace's eyes were cautious, "Then I'm right here to catch you."
Clary let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding, her eyes holding his carefully. She reached out a hand to rest on his chest, and he leaned down, giving her the soft, gentle kiss she'd been waiting for.
This is how I procrastinate. Just little drabble, hope you liked it.
