Darkness, total darkness had already invaded the street. The cold wind and the chill it had brought with it was indescribable. But above all I could feel the fear which stalked the street. I have never been scared of the dark but things that I cannot see under this black veil threatened me, and tonight there was something more in the streets. Maybe it was the absence of small noises or the lack of light from the shops which normally infiltrated the streets. Tonight it was a different night because at this hour, I was alone. Totally alone in a street I'm not really used to at night.
The street lights began to flicker and under the fluorescent light a figure appeared and I noticed that the person standing under the light was a women with her hair midnight black and gleamed ethereally as the light hit it. This created a beautiful contrast to her pale creamy skin that no doubt could only be achieved through years of avoiding the sun's warmth. She wore a beautiful dress which highlighted every curve of her body. It was garnet and black, adorned with silver roses woven into a lace border. As she moved, the dress flowed around her and gave the impression that she was gliding weightlessly.
As I looked at her, transfixed by her presence, she turned and pierced me with her gleaming emerald stare. Her eyes seemed to bore into the depths of my soul. There was no question that this woman was not human. There was an eerie quality about her that could make the hair stand on the back of your neck. I wanted to run for safety, but my feet would not allow me to do so. Her very presence was so enchanting and otherworldly that I remained motionless, as if by moving she would disappear from sight and be lost to my memories for eternity.
She stood still beside the light and lifted her hand out and began to move her figure for me to come closer, it was as if that my presence was not all that shocking to her or that I could actually see her. My body began to move as if I was under some sort of spell. As I stood in front of her my heart began to thump. The woman just stood as if she was sizing me up for something, like an animal ready to pounce on its prey and I didn't feel like being someone's dinner. "What do you want from me?"
The woman's mouth turned up into a slight smile as if she was waiting for me to turn back and run. "It is not I that needs something from you, it is you that needs something from me."
I crossed my arms over chest in a defensive mode "What could I possibly need from you?"
"There is a prophecy about you my child, one that has been foretold through centuries. You are the hope that many have been trying to find. There will be hardships, tears and blood but that will just be the beginning. If you follow the path that has been left behind you will take your fate into your own hands. Do not trust those who are not worthy of it."
She began to disintegrate "No wait please!" I said pleading
The woman placed her hand on my cheek and her thumb gently stroked the tears that I had not noticed that fell "Your strength, bravery and courage will get you through this. Good luck my child" and with that she was gone and then darkness surrounded me.
