Searching For Nothingness

--------------------

It wasn't that she didn't want him, and it was clear he wanted her. There was just nothing between them.

He kissed her fingertips delicately, hoping to find even an ounce of what had once been there.

Nothing.

She shifted away from him and curled up in her corner of the couch.

He watched as silent tears ran down here cheeks. She clutched the throw pillow, almost as if she were scared. He reached out to her hand, but her eyes widened and she shook her head. He moved his hand back to rest in his lap.

What happened? He asked quietly, and almost rhetorically.

You fell in love. She whispered. I told you not to.

He nodded thoughtfully and his head sank into his hands. He had never been much of a crier but right now, it was the only thing he could think of to do.

She was right. He had fallen in love, even after she had told him countless times not to. She had said that it would all end in tears. She was right. He had come to learn that she was always right.

They sat in silence, both unsure of what to do next.

Finally, he scooted over to her. He sat there and she glanced at him nervously. Still not completely sure of what to do, he grabbed her by the shoulders and kissed her harshly, in the hope of finding something - anything.

Nothing.

He pulled away and stood up, shooting her one last regretful smile before leaving the house.

This time when he left, she tried to feel something - anything. She couldn't help but feel…

Nothing.

So I decided not to include any names in this fic, so it's up to you who it is. Make sure you tell me in a review who you imagined it to be!

When I was writing it, I started out with the intention of writing a Troy/Sharpay, but I think it progressed into a Chad/Sharpay in my mind.

Make sure you tell me what pairing you think of when you read this fic!
