Prologue

A solitary figure sat at the edge of a riverbank skipping stones. By looking at her it would be hard to guess that only five short years ago this beautiful creature was nothing but a blossoming flower. And flower was the perfect word to describe her, with her short cropped hair the color of cherry blossoms, and her delicate features that could warm the coldest of hearts. However, just like her petaled counterpart, if you reached out to touch her you would pull back a bloody hand torn apart by thorns. She was not always this way. Like most of us, she had been a happy and smiling child, curious about the world and everything in it. At twelve years old her childish innocence began to fade. Slowly, one by one, those she had held close to her fragile heart disappeared.

First she lost her best friend to bitter rivalry. Not knowing that neither one stood a chance, they had foolishly chased a common love and gave up on each other. It was a low blow for such a young girl. She had lost the only person who knew the real her. The only one that gave her the strength to keep going. Maybe in a fairy tale, her misery would have stopped there. However, she was forced to learn quickly just how merciless the world could be. The one she loved didn't love her in return.

Not only had her heart been broken, but she had lost her friend for nothing. Just when he thought she could deal with the pain of not being with him, he left. No longer was she worth the life she was given. His goal to obtain power and strength was of more calue then her heart. She never fully understoon why he had chosen such a lethal path when she had so much more to offer him. She gave up trying to comprehend it all and eased the pain by blaming it on herself. If it was her it would be so much simpler. She wouldn't have to dwell on the suffering and it might be possible to prevent the same mistakes from happening in the future. If she felt no love, then she would feel no pain. As the answer to her problems, she placed a barbed wire fence of protection around her heart. If no one could get in, then no one could leave. It took her a long time to get used to the lonliness, but it kept her from suffering.

She endured. Not only did she continue on, she surpassed those she had once depended on. This woman, who was once nothing but a weak child, had become one of the most powerful shinobi of the leaf village. Having a world of oppertunities placed before her, she chose to follow in her teacher's footsteps. Hopefully her students would never have to bear the scars that covered every inch of her battered heart. Their future was entrusted to her, and so she would guide them to a brighter tomorrow and help them to obtain their dreams.

Ok. so that ends the prologue. Next the story will begin. Don't forget to review!
