Samantha Carter settled into her office chair, resolved to finally get some work done but no sooner did she put her hands on her desk then someone knocked at the door.

"Come in." Sam called as she glanced at the door.

The door creaked open and Jack slipped in, carrying an elongated box that looked like it was meant to hold flowers.

"So *Colonel* Carter, how does it feel?" Jack asked as he sat down.

Sam grinned, "Different."

"Well it has been less than twenty-four hours but just give it some time." Jack lectured.

"Well Sir-I mean Jack, how does it feel to be a civilian?" Sam asked as her grin widened.

"Good, with the exception that I am now a civilian consultant for the SGC, very good." Jack replied before holding the box out to her. "This is for you."

Sam flushed slightly as she took the gift from her former CO, putting it on her lap.

"Well then open it." Jack urged and Sam did as she was "ordered", like she had during most of the last decade from this man.

She took off the lid and immediately realized that there were no congratulatory flowers like those that had been sent to her in the past few days. She lifted back the tissue paper to find a note and something much larger underneath. The front of the note read: "Read Me First" so with a quick glance to Jack, Sam opened the letter.

"Okay this is part one of this ordeal, but the next part explains further, check out the gift."

Sam glanced at her former CO again before discarding the note and lifting the gift out of the box. It was one of those large triangular nameplates made out of wood with a brass nameplate. Turning it to read the nameplate it took her a minute to make sense of it. Col. Samantha Carter-O'Neill. Quickly looking up at Jack, he was grinning at her as he held out a small open velvet box.

"Samantha Jean Carter, will you please do me the honor of taking my name." Jack continued to grin.

Sam was floored, completely incapable of thought. She glanced into the small velvet box to find a beautiful, single diamond ring inside.

"If you were wondering that was a really bad attempt at a marriage proposal." Jack shrugged, wondering what was taking so long for an answer.

"I've waited for this moment for so long you're not going to rush me though it Jack." Sam grinned. "Of course I'll marry you Jonathan Scott O'Neill."

Jack stood to come around the desk to slip the ring on his new fiancée's finger and to give her a kiss. Finally pulling away Jack wrinkled his nose, "What's with the Jonathan Scott stuff?"

"Well that's what happens when you pull out the Samantha Jean stuff." Sam grinned at her future husband's face.

"And about the nameplate, I've got two more at home, just incase. One reads Col. Samantha Carter, just incase this didn't go well or incase you decide to not take my name and the other says Col. Samantha O'Neill, just incase I could talk you into it." Jack explained.

"I want your last name nearly as much as I want you." Sam grinned a slightly seductive grin.

"Yeah? How much is that?" Jack grinned back.

"Why don't I show you?" Sam asked rising an eyebrow.

"I love that idea *Colonel*." Jack answered.

"I'm glad because for the rest of your life I'll be showing you." Sam's grin turned into a complete smile.

"Now that sounds really good, Colonel O'Neill, extremely good."
