Abandoned

"What did you want to show me Sirius?" James asked as they entered the unused class room.

"Nothing James. I just wanted to talk to you about something." He replied as he shut the door.

"Is everything okay?"

"I'm not sure."

Sirius stood still, facing the door. He slowly turned around to face James. His hair was unusually messy covering his eyes, but this did not hide the lost expression that was so evident on his face. James walked slowly closer trying to understand his best friend's pain.

"What happened Padfoot?"

Sirius sunk to the floor heavily and pulled his legs into his chest, hugging them tightly. He kept his eyes on the stone floor as he replied at a volume no higher then a whisper "They kicked me out prongs."

"What do you mean? Who kicked you out? You didn't get expelled did you?"

"No. I'm not expelled. The school is the only place I have left. They… They disowned me Prongs! My parents disowned me!"

The smaller boy hid his face and let out a choked sob that rattled him to the core. James bent down beside him, still not fully understanding.

"I thought you hated them Pads?"

Sirius lifted his head slowly, taking in a ragged breath before responding.

"That's it James, I did hate them. I hated everything they stood for. I hated they're pureblood ways, I hated their lies, their deceit, I hated how they treated everyone who "wasn't good enough" for them. But the thing is they were still my family, and that was my home. It was somewhere I could always go, and now I have nothing. No where to live or stay. No family to take me in, not even a god awful one."

James could see the tears welling in Sirius's eyes as the smaller boy tried desperately to hold them in and the panic that they held. He looked wild and so scared. James wanted nothing more than to take the pain away his best friend was carrying, but the only thing he could think to do was to try and comfort him. He pulled him into a hug letting the smaller boy rest against him.

"I knew it was coming, just not this soon. I didn't think it would hurt this much. I didn't think I would feel so abandoned, but I do."

James started rubbing his back gently, attempting to console his friend.

"It's okay Sirius, everything will be all right."

Sirius tried to move out of the embrace but James held him tight, afraid he might run off and do something rash in his distraught state if he let him go. Sirius stopped resisting, instead he cried out "No it won't be okay! I'm alone! Don't you get it James? The people who were born to love have ditched me! Left me with nothing! I have no one!" He broke into another sob, hiding his face once again.

"That's not true Pads." James said calmly rocking Sirius in his arms.

"Yes it is." He said still hiding his face.

"No it's not. You're not alone. You'll always have me. I will always be there to take care of you. Do you understand that? You will always have a place to go as long as I'm around. I care about you."

"You do?" he asked turning his tear stroked face to his best friend.

James lifted his hand and gently wiped the tears away.

"Yes, I do. I'm never going to leave you Pads, I promise."

Sirius buried his face in James's chest, fully embracing the boy who truly cared.
