..Wida's Story.. Wida is Karna's Forest Type Gym Leader

Being a gym leader is hard at times… but can also give you grand experiences! A small boy, no older than 8 years, approached me in my Forest gym and challenged me to a fight today. I smiled, and since I can't refuse anyone, I had to fight him. He had to be the cutest little thing on earth. He had yet only two pokeballs on his belt, a small Rattata and a Metapod, who was even too pitiful for me to look at. I pushed all the memories aside, or at least tried to. But it kept gnawing on me, he reminded me of my brother, when he was only about 10. He was also struggling with Pokemon, and could never quite train them the right way. I remember his Pidgey, how it squawked day in and day out, never failing to annoy us. But the day he left with father was the saddest day of my life. My brother and I were so close, and after our parents were divorced, my mother took custody of myself, my dad taking my brother. I never saw him again, but I plan on it one day.

As we took our places to prepare to battle, I proclaimed to 'go' and let him release his Pokemon first, his Rattata, followed by my Sandshrew. His Rattata used 'tackle' on Sandshrew, and my Sandshrew countered with 'scratch'. That small attack had already taken half of the poor Rattata's power. With one more scratch, he was out cold. The boy called his small Pokemon back, and released his Metapod, to which I let out my Diglett after calling back Sandshrew. Diglett scratched and scratched at Metapod, the poor thing barely moving. If Metapod's defense wasn't so nice, it would have fainted very quickly. Another scratch. Another. After one more, and Metapod's power was almost gone completely, it regained it's senses, and, from nowhere at all, it started to flicker, becoming what seemed to be a Butterfree!

The boy became well aware of this, and cheered it on! I couldn't believe the boys face watching his Pokemon evolve like that! But, after it was done evolving, it still had only little power left, and that all shattered as my Diglett went for a Magnitude. The Butterfree fell to the ground, and the boy called it back with a very happy look on his face. I adored him so much, I almost gave him the Leaf badge anyway! Content with his Pokemon's new formation, he strolled out the door briskly, refreshing my hope in Pokemon trainers everywhere. If all of us could be just this happy about something like this, life would be easier. And to know this boy came in with high hopes and left with nothing but a smile left me with the best feeling ever.
