Ok so this is my first published fanfiction! Yay!
please r&r!
thanks so much!
I hear his screams from the house across the street nearly every night. Tobias Eaton has secrets. I know that he has secrets about his past, present and possibly his future. He knows who he is, unlike most of the other people in Abnegation who are too busy not thinking about themselves to think of their future.
We've talked before; he's at my house quite often due to the fact that our fathers work together at the Hub, but when we talk its typically about unimportant things like the weather or school or the latest stunt that the Dauntless entities had pulled. So I decided that tonight I would talk to him about much more important matters.
I was sitting on the sofa when I heard a yelp from the outside of the door, preceded by the sound of a fist coming in contact with someone's face. Then I heard the sound of footsteps pounding away into the distance, Tobias I thought, starting to get worried.
Then Marcus, Tobias' very intimidating father with cold gray eyes stormed it. Well, he didn't exactly "storm" but to me it would seem more appropriate if he did. Marcus went directly into the dining room with my parents, not even bothering to look my way.
I slipped out of the house not telling anyone, not even Caleb, where I was going, and dashed off into the woods. In Abnegation most don't care about running but it's one of the things that I'm best at, it helps me forget who I am and all the problems that I have. I didn't have to run very far before I found Tobias, curled up under agiant willow tree shivering. It was below thirty degrees outside and he was only wearing the typical Abnegation uniform, gray slacks and a thin gray sweater, without an overcoat.
He looked much younger than fifteen in the moment, a little less dangerous and a lot more vulnerable. "Tobias?" I whispered, "Tobias what's wrong?"
"N-Nothing Beatrice, leave m-me alone,"
I hugged him, it was an instinctive movement, but he still froze, like he was in pain. "No… tell me what's wrong?"
Tobias pulled back a little and as he did the sleeve of his sweater slid up, revealing bruises and burn marks. When he realized it he pulled it down quickly, looking both embarrassed and worried.
"Is that what he does to you?" I murmured.
He nodded, looking at the ground.
"Then why don't we get you out of there? Tobias you can't stay there, you can't live like that,"
"Yes I can," he mumbled "I have to, I don't have a choice," he said, voice cracking.
I just hugged him again, until, "Tobias Eaton get back here you worthless excuse for a son!"
Tobias sprang up, wincing a little, "Beatrice… Beatrice I have to go, he'll kill me if I don't,"
"No! Don't!" I said the worriedness creeping into my voice.
"I have to… I'll see you at school, ok?" he said, running towards my house.
"Ok," I said to myself, Tobias was long gone.
That night I heard him screaming again, this time for longer, and all I could do was hope that Marcus would drop dead and that Tobias would somehow be alright.
