After having dealt with the dinosaur (which they were able to condition as a pet easily.) The Master and the Rani found themselves unable to exit the TARDIS. They couldn't get the TARDIS to land anywhere, due to the Doctor's handiwork. Their days consisted of bickering and tinkering together to fix the Rani's TARDIS.
The Master walked up to the Rani with his hands behind his back. He cautiously stood behind her for a moment before speaking, "hello."
She turned away from her work, "what is it?" She was irritated with him, they had a horribly intimate argument earlier.
"I was just wanting to, let's say make a truce." His eyes glowed with some sort of hope that shocked her.
"Uhm, yes of course. Though only until we can fix this, what's behind your back?" She raised her eyebrows and leaned forward an attempt to see behind him.
He laughed and moved so she couldn't see. "It's a sign of our truce, if you'll accept it that is."
"Well that depends on what it is, of course." She was growing more curious and more aggitated as well.
He grabbed one of her hands in his and she flinched. He chuckled a bit, kissed her hand and pulled out a bouquet of flowers. "Can you keep them alive?"
She scoffed, flustered and replied, "of course i can, they are simple flowers." She took them from him and went to find a vase for them.
They got along better after the exchange, they still argued but rarely and shortly. They talked much more and friendly, and took breaks together. She found that those flowers were a symbol of something else, something much more then a truce.
She thought she found a way to get the TARDIS fixed sooner and spent less time with him. She noticed later he was giving her lingering gazes and occasional contact as they worked. A hand brushed across her shoulder, arm, waist, and her hip. She slapped him and they had a huge row about it. Bringing up past pain and hurt. They both sulked off licking their wounds .
She stared at the wilted bouquet in front of her. She hadn't been unable to keep them alive, she neglected them. She frowned, this wasn't productive she was getting nowhere. She would need his help to fix the TARDIS after all, perhaps he just wanted her attention.
Why would he want that? She hadn't been this close to him since when they were in the academy. They were intimate, they showed emotions besides disdain to each like before everything, becoming renegades and doing their own things. Twice she had ruined it by neglecting him, though she revived neglect as well. Much like their dead flowers, hopefully their relationship hadn't died as well.
"Ahh yes, hello Rex. There's a good boy." The Master petted the dinosaur. "I wonder how she's getting along?" He asked sounding almost sad.
"I'm sorry for neglecting you before. I really need you now .So I'll be there for you, just be there for me ok. " She sounded as the words hurt her.
"What, you do? I mean yes, I'll be there for you. I'm sorry for not being so in the past either."He stood up and patted Rex. "Though I doubt things are going to go back to being like before are they?"
She grabbed his hand to lead him back to the console room. "No, they won't they can't ever be." She smiled and he stood shocked at her beauty. "It'll be better then before."
He smiled and squeezed her hand gently, "I'll make sure of it my dear."
