"I am sorry everyone. This is more difficult than I thought it would be... Then again, my life has been difficult. When I sit here and reflect on it, my entire existence was supported by the fact that he would always be there, whether to mock me or to hold me. He was always there. Always."

The small albino sighed as he felt tear roll down his face, watching them hit the paper. he didn't bother to wipe them away, knowing the action would be pointless. No-one was there to see him cry, so why should it matter if he lets his emotions out now?

"many considered us enemies. they thought Mello would gladly shoot me dead if he had the chance. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. In all honesty, I wish he had. It would have spared me the pain of having to lose him... And the pain of having to do this myself, alone. But he is gone from this world now. Lost to me for as long as I live. However, I have a small shred of happiness left... for I know that I will see him again very soon. And he will embrace me once again."

The tears fell faster onto the paper, causing some of the ink to blot. Near raised hid hand to his face and wiped his tears on his pajama sleeve. What was the point, he thought to himself, of writing this note if no-one would be able to read it?

"I made it my goal to defeat Kira. Not just for myself, or even for L. I did it for Mello. He's waiting for me at the end. We took this victory together... Mello and Near, working together as one. I'm glad the world is rid of that monster. But at what cost? In my mind... losing the one person I ever cared about was not worth the victory against Kira.

You'll find me with a rosary around my neck. When you bury my body ,please do not take it off.

I know some of you won't understand. Halle, I know you will, I was able to tell you everything. But moving on from that. I know you will all be fine, and probably a lot happier with me gone. Thank you all for everything.

Signed,

Nate River."

As he folded the note and tucked it under his robot's feet on the desk, Near continued to cry into the empty room. He picked up the small revolver beside him and closed his eyes as he put it to his temple. He smiled as he heard that sweet voice calling to him...

"Near, what took you so long?" He could feel his love's arms embracing him as he whispered, "Mihael..." and pulled the trigger.
