I can almost see it.
That dream I'm dreaming but,
There's a voice inside my head saying:
You'll never reach it.
Every step I'm taking.
Every move I make feelslost with no direction.
My faith is shaking. But I, I got to keep trying, got to keep my head held high.

"I'm going to keep going until I succeed — or die. Don't think I don't know how this might end. I've known it for years."
Those words were true. Harry had known it for years: That his lifespan seemed to be set in an hourglass, similar to the ones for each house at Hogwarts. Each ruby, emerald, sapphire added or taken away was the result of one of Voldemort's ploys. The number of heartbeats left to pound, the number of breaths waiting to be inhaled all laid curled in the grasp of the Dark Lord's inhuman hand. Every odd, it seemed, was now turned against him.
All the more reason to give up now, the demon voice that hid in back of Harry's head arrogantly spoke up; you really don't have a chance.
As much as he wanted to contradict the point, those words were also true. Every hint that had managed to scratch its way through the Golden Trio's jagged equilibrium had lead to failure. It seemed that dead ends, dark alleys, and fruitless attempts were the only tools they had to claw out the end. Every move they made was neither here or there, all three were lost with no direction.
Then why did you even bother trying? A second voice chimed in, sounding alarmingly like Ginny. Why are you, Hermione and Ron willing to lay down your lives for a better future? You know it, and they know it. You three do have a chance, and the tools to use it. Stay hidden if you have to. Stay strong.
He would. After all, wasn't it him who said that there was adifference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew — and so did Harry — that there was all the difference in the world.
Stole bits and pieces from the last two books but this oneshot came out pretty good.
So... Love it? Hate it? Wanna burn it? Lemme know in a on. Review. You know you wanna. Pretty please with a cherry on top. :D
