SUMMARY: [daunt-less] - adjective - Heroes who are inclined to rush to danger, not away from it.
DISCLAIMER: NCIS is the property of CBS. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real people, living or dead is purely coincidental… I am a poor college student, you'll put more into a lawyer than you'll ever get out of me….unless you like five dollar pizza…..then maybe…..
A/N: Very slightly inspired by a term used in the book called Divergent by Victoria Roth….. In all honesty this was originally meant to be a short, stand alone, fic-let. But now I'm playing with the idea of extending it out into a full blown story. Thoughts? Also, I do apologize for the delay in posting new material. The new semester has just started and with classes and books and homework and such it's been a little crazy and is likely to remain so for the next twenty some-odd weeks. Such is the life of a college student.
It began with violent acts of terror. There was no remorse. No guilt. Only the message they wished to convey. And, the anger, the hurt, the pain. The madness.
Whatever their justifiable cause may have been it had been lost with the death of the first innocent person.
That had been months ago. It had begun with the bombing of the NCIS building. Forty-two agents and staff had been killed in the blast. Seventy-three had been injured…many fatally. Since then the acts of violence and terror had just grown.
Buses, bombings…innocent people….would the madness never end?
The team knew it wouldn't. The violence and the bloodshed wouldn't stop until the terrorists behind it had accomplished their purpose. Until they had delivered their message.
All that stood between them and their goal was the team. Four federal agents armed with more than just guns and badges. They were smart, they were courageous, and they were unafraid of the terrorists' threats. These four would do whatever it took to stop the loss of more innocent lives. These four were Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team from NCIS.
With the world falling apart around them and everything to lose these four stood valiantly in the face of people who had nothing to lose and everything to gain by killing them.
They had been given a choice. Stand or fall. They had chosen. They would stand to the very last man.
They would fight until they could fight no more.
They would not give up. They would never give in. They would never accept defeat. They would not quit. They would not give ground. They would hold it. Or they would fall.
These four agents stood alone in a city held captive by terror.
They stared death, defiantly, in the eye and refused to run or to give way. They were NCIS and they were dauntless.
