In the Shallows

He didn't really k n o w why he was walking

down

the

hallway.

But at the same time, that odd prickling feeling of something being

wrong

was completely inherent.

One, two, three.

A soft knock on Demyx's door, just below the Roman numeral nine, and he entered.

Demyx was perched on the edge of his bed, covers wrapped tightly around his lithe frame.

A chime went off in the depths of the castle as the darkest hour came upon them—midnight. He sat down beside the slightly larger Nobody and slid an arm around him. Each of his motions and actions—even his words were perfectly smooth, precise, without anything unnecessary.

"Are you alright?" he asked. Demyx glanced over, cerulean eyes uncharacteristically unsure.

"Yeah," he stated, only a whisper. Zexion sighed and brushed his lips across the other's cheek.

"Dream?" he said.

"Past life," Demyx said, and snuggled into him for warmth.

"I see," Zexion said, and ran a hand through Demyx's hair.

They sat in silence for a while, as the heart-shaped moon continued in its arc across the empty black sky.

"Zexion?"

"Hm?" he leaned his head on Demyx's shoulder.

"Do you remember?"

"Remember what?" he said evasively, as though denying there was something to remember at all.

"Nevermind…" Demyx said, "Will you stay here?"

"Of course. I'll c h a s e the dark away," he said and gave Demyx a soft kiss.

In the depths of his nonexistent being, Demyx knew that Zexion would.

No matter how i m p e n e t r a b l e the dark.

For

that

was

how

they

loved

each other.
