Bunny Heaven
Tino looked with a heavy feeling in his chest as Peter sat on the grass, holding his small, light brown bunny in his lap, patting its fur.
One hour ago the little creature had been lying in its cage, panting and soaked in sweat. Peter had found it when he, just as usual, had gone to it after school with a snack for it. When he had found it in that devastating condition he had called his dad to the backyard. Tino had brought a towel, and together they had dried it and then Peter had sat there, in the same position and patting his bunny as the life slowly slipped away from it.
Tino had to blink away a few tears when he sat next to Peter, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Peter, he's dead," he said softly, removing Peter's hand from the bunny so he could place it back in the cage. "I'm sorry."
Peter simply nodded, wiping away the tears and silently standing up to return inside and to his bedroom.
Tino stroke the bunny's fur once, it had been him to run out in the middle of the night and feed him, change his hay and walk up really early to change his water or clean his cage. He would miss him.
He returned inside at the same time as Berwald came home from work. He immediately got raised eyebrows, Berwald was a master in reading his thoughts, expressions and appearance, or Tino was just really bad at hiding things. He went straight into Berwald's outstretched arms, feeling better as soon as his husband's arms were wrapped safely around him.
"Peter's bunny died today," Tino informed him. "Would you mind making a little coffin for him? I think he would appreciate it." He took a step back and nodded at the stairs. "I'll go talk to him."
Berwald nodded, turning around to go to their little woodwork house where he usually did stuff like that, and Tino walked up the staircase.
Peter was hiding underneath his covers when Tino got to his room. Already outside he could hear the soft sobbing, muffled by the thick duvet. The Finn sat down next to him on the bed, placing a hand on his side. "Peter…"
The boy turned around, watching his dad with teary eyes, not letting him continue. "Dad, do you think bunnies go to heaven?"
Tino looked a little surprised at him, not having expected that. He frowned as he had to think of a good answer to the question. "Yes," he said finally, "I think they go to heaven where they can jump around and eat as much carrots as they want to."
It may have sounded a bit childish, but it was just what Peter needed. He had the bunny for three years after all, that's a lot more than what it takes to get attached to something. Peter nodded slowly, smiling. "Is it nice there?"
Tino nodded excitedly. "Yes! It's really beautiful and bright, with green grass and a lots of colors and-"
Peter interrupted him with a laugh, if he didn't; he would probably go on forever. "Thanks dad."
Tino smiled, leaning down to kiss his forehead. "You're welcome, Peter. And don't worry, I'm sure he'll be happy in bunny heaven."
A/N I should really stop doing these silly-little-somethings and start writing on my chapter fics... but yesterday was a really sad day, since my little sister's bunny died :'c Even though I didn't have very much connection with him (what, I gave him food like, twice and was never able to hold him) or so, it was a very sad day since he's been part of the family for two years. So I think they buried him today, and I just needed to get it out of my system, and what is better to do that than fanfics? So yes, this story is for you, Lukas. R.I.P.
