BLACK ARE THE ROSES

Prologue

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Kim Possible, slumped against the wall, stared at her cell mate, who was busy shooting green rays at the door to their prison. Her eyes closed, and she felt a sharp kick to her ankle.

"Get up and help!" Her cell mate yelled, anger tinting her voice.

"Give it up," Kim replied. "Not even YOU can do anything to save yourself now."

"I can't believe it. Kimmi is finally giving up. Who would've guessed all it took was a couple lost lives?" The green eyed girl leaned against the wall facing Kim, arms crossed.

Kim sighed and examined her mate. The make-up had mostly faded off her face, leaving chapped and bloodied lips, and gash across her face, starting from her left ear down her face to end just above her chin. It was swollen and black. The eyeliner had smeared down her face, leaving more scar-looking marks. Her skin was a pasty color, deathly gray. Dark bags stained the skin under her eyes, and her hands were cut and tainted red from constantly punching the rock solid walls. Nothing could hide the vulnerability her cell mate felt, even as her eyes held fire in them and her remarks were as snide as ever.

"There's nothing we can do!" Kim yelped, snapping at the mention of people dying. It was true, lives had been lost, and out past this prison, people were still dying. And she couldn't do a thing about it. "Well, nothing I can do. I highly doubt you'd help, even if you HAD the chance." Kim ducked a green fireball smashing into the wall beside her head. "Hey!"

"You shut up! You have-" Bang. "-No idea-" Bang. "-What I've been through!" Bang.

Kim's eyes narrowed. "Well, I DO know that you've spent quite a while trying to KILL ME!" She kicked hard at the girl's bare ankle, but the girl jumped back away, sniffling in a snobby way.

"Yeah? Well, get up, Kimmi, and I'll make sure you join your friends!"

Kimmi leapt up, hands in clenched fists, but her legs were weak and asleep, and she crumpled back down to the ground again. Her cell mate's eyes, from the outside, showed victory, but on the inside, Kim knew just how afraid she truly was.

"At least I HAVE friends!" Kim replied.

"It doesn't help to have them while they're dead, now, does it, sweetheart?"

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Kim listened to the fireballs hitting the door again. She wished that things had gone differently. She wished that she'd been nicer to her family. She wished that she hadn't brought a ten year old boy, genius or not, into this.

And strangely enough, she wished that she could help her mate. But she couldn't.

They were doomed in about ten minutes.

It was the end.
