Red

She is wearing red lipstick, and Wilson knows she only brings it out for special occasions. He goes into her office under the pretence of wanting a medical procedure allowed. She stares at him curiously as she consents to it, probably because he has done it so many times before. He catches a glimpse of her pocket diary, pinned open at this week, and sees no important meetings scheduled. Here he realizes that he is her reason, because he is taking her out to dinner.

Orange

The meal finishes with a small platter of fruit, neatly arranged, a ring of watermelon surrounding a bunch of grapes, slices of orange bordering the plate. He doesn't understand why people eat orange slices, as he cannot taste them, but Cuddy seems to like them, daintily sucking at the juice, and he has never been more turned on in his life.

Yellow

Cuddy stops talking and gazes over his shoulder. He turns to see that she is looking at a picture that a patient's daughter had given him. A sun fills up most f the page, with 'Thank you for fixing my mom' scrawled across the top in childish handwriting.

Cuddy sighs. "I wish I had someone to draw me pictures," she says.

"I'll draw you one," Wilson offers, taking out a box of crayons.

"That's not what I mean," she protests, but he has already drawn a yellow circle. She watches silently as he colours it in, not as well as the one on the wall, and writes around the circle: To my Sunshine, thanks for brightening my days.

Cuddy takes it when he's finished and studies it.

"Thank you, James," she says quietly, and it's the first time she's used his first name.

Green

The leaves are beginning to grow again, and Cuddy points this out to him as they walk into the building together. He hadn't noticed, but he's never seen Cuddy so content before. The next day, he brings her a pot plant, which she puts on the corner of her desk, despite telling him earlier she had no room to move in her office.

Blue

The skies are overcast, and heavy raindrops begin to fall steadily. He has no umbrella and has to run to his car.

On his way, Cuddy seems him and calls out, sheltered by an umbrella. He jogs over to her gratefully, even though his car is only a few metres away.

"It's small," she says, "you have to come right under," and despite him being wet, she puts her arm around him to pull him close.

Indigo

He's inspecting a patient's persistent bruise when the exam room door opens unexpectedly. Cuddy comes in and over to him. Without warning, she kisses him lightly, tentatively, like she shouldn't be doing it, and Wilson supposes she shouldn't be, not in front of a patient.

She leaves the room before Wilson can say anything. His patient doesn't look annoyed, merely startled. Wilson continues the exam, as professionally as he can, but really, he doesn't hear a word he's saying.

Violet

They take a walk one hectic afternoon, escaping the exam rooms for a peaceful few minutes. They pass a bush of violets, and he plucks on, handing it to her.

"I'll keep it forever," she says, twirling it in her fingers.

"You can't," he says, because as they both know, all things must eventually die.

"I'll press it," she tells him, making him realise that, if you know how, maybe some things do go on forever.
