Disclaimer: Sadly I still don't own Harry Potter. Grrr...
Chapter One:
"Today, class, we will be starting a new project," Professor Lilac stated once everyone was seated. There were groans from every where in the class. No one liked starting a project on the first day of school, especially in Muggle Studies. I looked around to see that everybody had lost interest in what the professor was saying. Some people were doodling on a piece of parchment, some were tapping there fingers impatiently, looking at the clock, and some were throwing notes to each other all the way across the classroom.
"I know it is only the first day of school, but I promise you all will love this project," she continued on, deciding to ignore the whole class looking as if they wanted to kill themselves. "I have talked to the Minister of Magic and he as agreed that this would be a great learning experience for all of you, especially since your O. are coming up. He thought it would be a good idea for you all to have this experience before entering the world as adults. For the whole first semester, you will be living you life as a muggle!" Students looked up at this statement and looked horrified.
"Brilliant!" Fred Weasley exclaimed, breaking the silence. Everyone in the class looked at him, and gave him the 'are you insane!' look. After about a minute of him just smiling stupidly at everyone, the professor called the class back to attention.
"Starting on September 10th, you will travel to a muggle city and begin going to a muggle high school. You will learn what it is like to live like a muggle and how they do things differently. You will be graded on how well you keep the secret that you are witches and wizards, and also for not using your wand. I will be able to tell if you use it or not because of the trace, so don't try any funny business with me. And anyways, I thought that this would be a better way to learn than to just have me lecture you all year, am I right?"
"Heck yes you are!" George Weasley said, punching his fist into the air, sounding very enthusiastic.
"Now I know what you are all thinking. You think that you will get out of all your other class's work. But you aren't, I'm afraid. You will be given all of you homework ahead of time so that you don't fall behind next semester. You will still be expected to have all of your assignments turned in the day before you go back home for Christmas." More groans.
"Now for your groups," the professor continued on, ignoring the groans once again. She began reading off the names, but I didn't pay attention until I heard my name called. "Jamie Warren, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, and Morgan Wilson." Well at least I got to go with my best friend, I thought. And she was probably thrilled that she and her boyfriend, George, were together. I on the other hand was not so thrilled. Sure the twins and I were friends and all, but they were always getting into trouble and I didn't want them to be the reason I failed Muggle Studies.
"Now, one last thing before class is over for the day. Each group needs to come up and draw a card from here, so you know where you are going to be staying. Who would like to go first?"
"I would!" I heard Fred yell. I looked back at him and saw that he was raising his hand and jumping up and down excitedly.
"Okay, Mr. Weasley, come over here," Professor Lilac stated. Fred ran over to her faster than I could have imagined possible. He closed his eyes and reached into the bowl with folded papers in it and picked one towards the bottom.
He slowly opened it and took a peak through his closed eyes. "Colorado Springs," he said, sounding confused, "where is that?"
"It is in America, in the state of Colorado. I think you should enjoy yourselves there," the professor replied.
One by one, each group was assigned which city they would be going to for the rest of the semester.
"So, are you looking forward to going to the States?" Morgan asked me as she sat down on my desk next to me. George was not far behind her, looking ecstatic to be in the same group as her. He took a seat next to her and waited for me to reply.
"Yeah, it sounds like it will be interesting," I replied. Learning about the muggle world would be fun, seeing as I grew up in a family full of witches and wizards, so I didn't know much about how muggles functioned without magic. I thought is was going to be really fun.
"I think it will be awesome! George and I can finally work on our muggle pranks. It will be so funny to see muggles fall for the classic jokes!" Fred said, walking up to the three of us and high-fiving George.
"Totally!" George replied, flipping his long ginger hair out of his face. "They won't know what hit them!"
"Guys, you have to be nice to the muggles. They don't know that we can use magic, so none of your little candies are to come on this trip." Morgan reminded them. If it wasn't for her, those boys would be in Azkaban Prison by now for 'accidentally' killing Flitch with one of their prank candies. They were always trying to get Flitch to be their test subject.
"Who said we were going to use magic, dear?" George asked. "That would go against the rules and we always follow the rules," he added sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and then stood up and sat down on top of my desk next to Morgan.
"I don't care what you guys do as long as it wont effect my grade," I stated, looking from Fred to George.
"Why are you so uptight about your grades all the time?" Fred asked, sitting down next to me.
"No reason. It is really that bad to just care about your grades?" I replied, refusing to look up at Fred. That wasn't the real reason, but I didn't want to talk about it with Fred. We aren't even that close of friends so why would I tell him anyways? I hadn't even told Morgan and we have been best friends since before I can remember.
"Umm... yeah it kind of is. What is the point of school anyways?" Fred wondered, "I mean, George and I are practically wasting our time here! We don't need to go to school to open a joke shop!"
"Fred, I have told you this before. We are going to school so our mother doesn't murder us in our sleep!" What did he just say? His mother? Murdering them in their sleep?
NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT!
"Well, I better be going," I said, standing up and walking towards the door. I didn't want to talk to anyone anymore, let alone the kings of pranks.
"Jamie, what's wrong?" Fred asked, jumping off the table and following me. Luckily, at that moment, the bell rang, and I was free to run off and avoid the Weasley twins for the rest of the week. But then I would be spending the rest of the semester with them. Definitely not looking forward to that.
I decided to skip lunch since I knew Fred would be wondering why I had got all updet all of a sudden and went back to my dorm instead.
Just as I was going up the stairs to the girls dormitories, someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.
"Jamie, what is wrong?" It was Fred. Had he really followed me all the way back here?
"Are you a stalker or something?' I said, attempting to change the subject. I was still refusing to look at him and tried to pull away from him but he wouldn't let me.
"Don't try to change the subject. What is wrong?"
"Look, I don't want to talk about this right now, ok? Maybe another time, but not now." I finally said after a few moments of silence. Fred slowly let go of my arm and let me walk up to my dorm in peace. Right before I turned to go to my room, I turned around and said, "Thanks for understanding," then I entered my room and fell down on my bed. I slept for what seemed like forever, until I was woken by Morgan.
"Jamie, what is wrong with you? You totally ditched all of you afternoon classes!" Morgan exclaimed. I bolted up and looked around the room. It was getting dark outside.
"I..." I stuttered, trying to come up with a good lie, "I didn't feel well so I decided to just take a quick nap and I guess I just lost track of time," I said finally.
"Fred said you seemed a little off..." Morgan said, trailing off to herself. In the silence, my stomach growled loudly. "You sound hungry, do you want to go get something to eat?" she asked me, looking at me with concern in her eyes.
"No. I don't really feel like getting up," I said, lying back down in my bed.
"Fine, but I am going to go get you something to eat whether you like it or not," she said standing up from her bed and walking out the room.
In the next few days Fred didn't bring up the subject. I was grateful for that. I don't think I will ever be ready to tell anyone about that night.
So this kind of just popped into my head and I felt like writing it, so yeah, plus the fact that I just read a story like this and it was awesome! Haha and not many people write stories like this so I though I should so yeah! Please R&R! Thanks!
