Little story fic I couldn't get out of my head.
The castle was empty and cold as the inky black sky flashed with lightening. Lily was alone in her dorm room and sat bolt up right as the rain pelted down on the window. She clutched her blanket to her chest in fear. Climbing out of bed Lily wrapped her in a warm bathrobe and slipped on a pair of slippers as she walked down to the common room.
The fire had dwindled down to black, crackling embers. Thunder crashed and lightening illuminated the room sending Lily burrowing into the oversized, scarlet couch. Trembling in fear tears flowed down Lily's face as she looked up. Taking a deep breath Lily stood and walked to the boys staircase. There was another crack of thunder and burst of lightening and Lily rushed up the stairs and pounded on the sixth year boys' dormitory door.
A groan, rustle, and crash could be heard from inside which made Lily smile a bit through her tears. She knew who would answer the door, for there was only one other Gryffindor that hadn't gone home for the holidays.
The door opened and James appeared wearing only a baggy pair of sweatpants. He spotted the tears flowing down Lily's cheeks and ushered her in. Another crash of thunder and flash of lightening and Lily jumped into the room and cowered in a corner.
"Lils? What's wrong?" James slid a hand around her upper arm and led her to his bed. They sat up, leaning against the headboard. James leaned over and brushed the tears from her cheeks.
"I'm...I'm afraid." Lily sniffed. She buried her head into his chest. James laid a hand on her red hair and stroked it softly.
"Why are you afraid?" James asked softly still caressing her soft curls. Lily hugged closer to him as thunder crashed again.
"The thunder and lightening." Lily curled into him. James stood from his place on his bed and pulled Lily up after him.
"What are we doing?" Lily looked confused. James simply smiled softly.
"Trust me." He led her out of the room and into the entrance hall. Stopping by a broom closet James grabbed his Comet 3000. Lily looked at him quizzically. James just led Lily outside into the pelting rain. James mounted his broom and pulled Lily on behind him.
"James, what are you doing? I don't think…Aaaaah." Lily screamed and clutched James' waist as he pushed off into the air. Not ten feet up and they were soaked to the bone, but they flew higher. They reached the highest peak of Hogwarts castle and landed. They stepped onto the wet roof with caution.
"Why did..?" Lily began but James cut her off and pointed to the sky. Lightening flashed, but it didn't scare her. The lightening was beautiful. The thunder was like drums accompanying the dancing rain. The night was beautiful.
"Maybe, it's not so bad." Lily leaned into James and smiled.
"I think I misjudged the storm, it's beautiful. I think I misjudged a lot of things, people. I think I misjudged you." Lily looked into James' eyes and kissed him softly.
"I found I'm quite drawn to you Mister Potter, to the point that I think I'm in love with you." Lily said in a fake sophisticated air.
"Well Miss Evans, I'm quite taken with you too." They laughed together and smiled again as the thunder clapped and the lightening danced with the rain.
"I love you." They said together and embraced as they watched the beautiful storm.
